her hair fell around the sides of her face like a curtain as her head hug low, forehead softly placed onto the shoulder of the princess. just like that the commoner hid again. she hid everyone there. even herself.

she’s used to these kinds of social events by now — pretty dresses and glittering lights, music from an orchestra and clothes too expensive for something that would only be worn once anyways. and she would be lying if she said that they lost their novelty a bit. somewhere between the ages of eight and twelve they became boring, tiring in the show that she was supposed to put on for the good of everyone else.

but this time is different. rarely are these events thrown in her honor, and rarely is she the center of them. birthday parties happen once a year, but debuts are a once in a lifetime experience. and these kinds of lifetime experiences needed to have a best friend, for company, for a second opinion, for sharing the entire night and preserving it as a memory to look back on. in any case, it just didn’t seem complete without dahee, and yejin held onto the girl’s hand as they walked between the people.

“of course he’s here! he always comes to these events.” her lips turn upwards into a smile, heels clicking on the ground as her dress swished around her legs. she’s showing probably a little too much skin for an event like this, as evidenced by the low v-neck of her dress, but she hardly cares. it’s her event, and shouldn’t the attention be on her?

yejin turns around to face her friend, clasping both of her hands. “so what if he’s here? you look so pretty, wouldn’t you want him to see you? he’ll be enchanted as soon as he looks at you!” and she knows it’s easier said than done, and crushes are complicated in any sense of the word, but she wholeheartedly believes in the charm of dahee, in both visuals and mannerisms. maybe she’s a little biased, a decade long friendship somewhat tainting her judgment about these things, but she’s always been honest when needed.
