The now on fire base would quickly came into view after a few wind-swept grass covered hills. At the bottom of a little valley it seemed to have actually rather small footprint and without a single Badnik, functional or otherwise, to be seen anywhere. Still the smoke and fire bellowed from within reaching high into the sky, being visible for miles now.
As he ran, there was no retort made as he saw the little robot boosting along near his side, instead he just gave a smirk before resuming his focus on the path ahead, here's hoping whatever had happened it wasn't as bad as it could be.
Once he reached a hill that overlooked the damaged terrain, Dan skidded to a stop, quickly looking one way and that....didn't seem like there was any risks to innocents, but just as oddly not a single Badnik either? What had caused the boom? "Do you have any sensors or scanners in that frame of yours? You're not detecting anything I'm not seeing are you?" He speaks to Omega for a second opinion on the scene in front of them. For now it would probably be best to try and end those blazing flames before they spread any further out than they already had. "Snuffing out this much is gonna be a lot of work......"
The bandicoot nods with an eye roll. It happened way too often around these parts, but with her and her brothers they could handle it. As well for however long this hedgehog would be hanging around for extra help if they need it. He was capable and willing to help from what he just did.
She writes down onto her notepad before showing to him.
'Alright, follow me and I'll give you a tour. We'll probably bump into my brothers and Aku-Aku at some point too.'
After giving him ample time to read her words she gestures for him to follow as they make their way more into the jungle.
Taking a moment to read the written words Dan nods, being ever curious to see more of this place. "Sounds good, but what's their names? And who is Aku-Aku?" Asking shortly after as he begins to follow Coco along. figuring it was probably best to at least be aware of them if they did run across her siblings.
"You also don't reckon my presence is going to be a bother do you?" Inwardly he already knew the answer when it came to his own awareness of what usually happened when he spent awhile in an unsecured location but here was hoping he wouldn't inherently draw the ire of the locals either. "I've had some pretty crazy reactions from some before, last thing I wanna do is cause an issue."

If Light was being honest with himself, he didn't have an answer for Dan's question. Some part of him thought they had a reason to stay. He was useful. Being able to not only decrypt but also translate documents and files that the Freedom Fighters had gotten from the Empire. He made it easier for them to plan their next steps.
Not that any had been taken.
Yet, it wasn't like he couldn't do that from anywhere. As long as he had an internet connection and his laptop, the former soldier would have no problem working remotely. So why not find somewhere else to live that would allow them more peace of mind.
"It's only Sonic that has been the main issue." He looked down when Gibbous nudged his hands with her head, raising her arms to him so that he could pick her up and put her on his leg. It was only a moment after that she snuggled into his shirt for a quick cuddle.
And he finally noticed that his breathing had picked up from his overthinking. One hand combed her quills, while the other helped keep her steady as she nuzzled.
"The rest of the group is wary of me, but they're not against her and I being here. The issue has always been just how loud and vocal Sonic has been about his distrust of myself and Gibbous."
"He hate Gibbie..." The pup's voice was muffled slightly against his shirt, pressing into the hand that moved to rub between her ears.
"If we could somehow manage to get him to back off, life here would be far less stressful than it is."
"Oh, ok, so it's not as bad as I thought it was, but still, what happened to Sonic to be so...judgy.....?" Even if he knew full well every person was different and the same could be said of multiverse versions of the same individual, the demon-hog couldn't help but ponder just what had happened to Sonic personally that caused such a level of distrust in the first place.
Especially towards a kid! An ear flicked as he heard Gibbous' muffled voice which only added to Dan's sentiments. "Well you're alright in my book Gibbie." Hoping to cheer her up a little before his focus went back to Light.
"Gotta be something, outside of what you mentioned before and needlessly throwing yourself into a dangerous situation." He sure hoped that wasn't the only thing that would even cause Sonic's attitude to consider shifting, otherwise what little respect Dan had already would lessen further. "Does he actually know your story? Maybe he just doesn't know.....or is being ignorant....." How he hoped it wasn't the latter.
"Regardless, while I know I've already said it but while I am here the only complaints and whining from him I'll accept is towards myself. If he starts something on you I'll confront him."
{➹} – JOHNNY DIDN'T WANT to think about what this all meant. Yet his mind kept creeping back to exactly that. Robotnik starting up shit again...it couldn't mean anything good. Not for them, and not for Sonic. It was the latter he couldn't help but think about. Had Robotnik gotten bored with the hero? Or had something else happened?
Something he didn't dare voice out loud.
Dan, however, kept his mind wandering too far. Leave it to the other to know exactly what to focus on. The important things. The rabbit was thankful for that as he took a breath. Time to focus.
"A few dozen, close to fifty from what we've picked up on." A bad number, in other words. Compounded by his next statement. "We only have twenty, maybe. Apart from us and the originals, they're rough though. We haven't have time to train them past not trippin' over their own feet and causin' a domino effect. Good hearts, but..."
Not experienced soldiers, in other words. Motioning for Dan to follow, Johnny kept talking as they made their way to the gate.
"Already sent out The Chaotix to spread word to get the hell out, but they'll still need us to get the stranglers. The rest of the team will meet us at the gate, and we'll head to Bridge Zone to see what we can do." There was a clear 'if' in his tone. If they could do anything more, they would. But he had low hopes. They didn't know what the doctor had planned now.
Hearing the situation didn't exactly surprise Dan but it wasn't something he would complain about, there was no use in doing that. in fact it was a good thing that at least their steady 'hope' was still enough that it kept some trying to make a difference much like themselves. "As long as they're willing, that's all we can ask from them, that and need."
It felt a little unusual hearing Johnny refer to others as the more new soldiers, even if Dan had been helping for awhile now, he still recalled how he first arrived here not being that long ago or at least that's how it felt to him.
"I'll try to keep an eye out for them as we move, though does that mean I'm one of the veterans now?" Giving a light smile as he said it, humour to help ease the mind before they set about their messy business.
Following along Johnny's lead, moving past the ruffle of others going by, Dan would prepare himself mostly by pulling on his cloak for their traversal and making sure his communicator was on with a light tap or two, listening in on the feedback from the front. It wasn't until they were near the gate and away from the majority of ears did he speak up again.
"So who is our team today exactly? and I don't suppose you've heard anything else have you?" The second question being all to obvious to what he was referring too.
Her giggles quickly turn into a surprised squeak as he retaliates with a pillow thrown into her face. The child brings her hands to shield her face as it collides then falls by her feet.
The moment her eyes were closed to where she opened them the older hedgehog had moved. In the seconds she took to look for him, he had ample time to attack her head with the pillow again.
"Wha-hey!" She giggled, swatting at him playfully.
There were no further made strikes with the pillow believing that the lesson had already been taught as the demon-hog was now just chortling to oneself as he gave the pink hedgehog a small gentle ruffle of her quills before stepping back and tucking his 'weapon' under his arm. "Heh you had enough already? You gotta lot to learn it seems when it comes to pillow fighting."
Of course he was going to tease the youngster a little on it. "I'll be sure to teach you a trick or two however for future."
"Are you ok Amy? Is something up or did you just want to throw a pillow at my face today for the sake of it?"

He had quite the shopping list on his hands, and quite the task to look forward to when he was done. It wasn't often that a new invention would take Tails into the city — recycling badniks normally worked out for him — but he was getting more ambitious, and with it, his supply depleted more quickly.
The errand took him almost literally across the entire city.
It was a series of unfortunate events, really. One thing lead to going someplace else, which ended up being a long game of telephone, then almost getting the stuff he already had stolen, then getting roped into... Well, he could go on for a bit.
Fortunately, he completed what he set out to do without any bruises. ( And that was the only fortune he was granted today. ) With the heaviest-looking bag in the world, he was on his way back to the train station.
An interesting set-up caught his eye as he walked. He noticed the hedgehog's eyes were following him, but paid the other no mind. Tails did have something to get to, after all.
Until he was seemingly called to. Tails stopped in his tracks, and whipped around to face the other. ❝ Me? ❞
Once Tails got his answer, his lips curled into a smile — that couldn't be a more accurate reading of him. ❝ Sure! ❞ Tails walked closer, and stood opposite from the hedgehog. His eyes briefly scanned the rings, before meeting the other's gaze again with a determined look on his face. ❝ Lay it on me. ❞
"Hah, I just knew you had that itch of curiosity in ya, saw it in your eyes, bit like my own." Beaming back at the fox as he said it being more than delighted to pull someone else to try out his little trick, especially one he had enough awareness of to figure it out.
"Ok, so as you can see, here are ten rings, they've all been coated in black." Gesturing to the array of them on the table, proceeding to pick each one of them up respectively at a time to hold out so Tails could see them better and verify that statement as he explained. "They are identical in practically every way yet one of them is a fake, the goal is simple, I want you to figure out which is the fake one."
The goal was simple enough in theory, arguably more so than it appeared much like how Dan wanted it to be as he knew he wasn't exactly 'smart' in the traditional sense. The entire time he spoke he maintained eye contact, trying to come across that there was genuinely no false information or under handed tactic at play.
"I don't expect you to do that just by randomly guessing outright of course."
"You will have three opportunities to gather as much information as you can. There is no restriction when it comes to how you may want to test the rings, feel free to pick them up, touch them, compare them and so on." He took a brief moment to pause and catch his breath, as well as not wanting to overwhelm them too much with his already winded explanation. "You are also free to ask me questions, I'll be honest in all but one exception in the case of you trying to get me to outright reveal it."
"Obviously there's no gambling but nor is there an incentive really, so uhh, hmm." Their azure eyes would promptly scan down Tails again as Dan tries to quickly add in a form of a potential reward, before landing on that obviously overstuffed bag in their possession. "How about if you can do it, I'll help you with carrying that shopping there? You look a little overwhelmed with it on your own there to be honest pal."

"If you don't mind me saying, I believe this may very well be the first time I've ever seen your eyes light up in such a way. Love a bit of food do you? Can't say I blame you though there's always something delicious to find......so, what do your eyes fancy first?" Those were the words Dan would speak as he stood alongside the well dressed, red haired soul in Alastor. Not being shy in the slightest to smirk a little at the sight of such an expression being shown in their gaze. you'd almost think someone hadn't seen so much food before. Whilst he still didn't know the other that well, when he'd discovered they were interested in witnessing such places he were all too happy to accompany them as a makeshift guide. "Personally I'm always a fan of the chicken dishes if you want my opinion for a starting point but as you can see, spoiled for choice."
