hello! This fic is almost fluff from start to finish, and Mel has put SO MUCH effort into worldbuilding- there's several versions of a dictionary (for a language that's not Spanish!), SO MUCH art for each chapter, and no end to the depths of the world she's created. This is now a permanent tab on my Kindle- have I mentioned I love this fic with my whole heart?

It's a trip traversing almost half the world, and you don't want to miss it!

A fandom classic, it's a You've Got Mail AU with the best twists to suit the story and characters we know and love! It's not just that, though. The way the plot and character development unfold in this is unparalleled. Definitely a good pick if you need a good fic to inspire you for When Henry Met Alex week later this summer, or you just want to add a new comfort fic to your repertoire!

@suseagull5914: So many great tropes collide in this action-packed fic! As usual with this author's fics, you'll be on the edge of your seat the entire time, her great use of cliffhangers having you eagerly pressing that next chapter button. This fic is unique among her fics too in that it combines spies with ordinary people in ways that are so unique and interesting! I can't stress enough that this is a fic I absolutely couldn't put down!
@porcelainmortal: I almost waited until this fic was fully posted to give it a go, but I'm so glad I didn't! I'm also kicking myself for not waiting, because bingeing the first 13 chapters and now having to wait for the rest might be considered actual torture. It's so deliciously tantalizing, the way Alex and Henry are together but not actually allowed to be together. I can't say much more without spoiling, but chapter 13 will live in my head rent-free for probably ever. For someone who doesn't watch reality shows, I really love fics where Alex and Henry find one another that way. Highly recommend!

Add to that the fact that this a strangers to lovers slowburn fairytale with all the fluff, action, and drama that that implies (mostly fluff, but there are two places where my comments in the doc read, "grabs popcorn and cookie dough"), and you have my favorite fic posted so far this year! Do check the tags before diving in, then sit back and be prepared for the absolutely phenomenal adventure that is the story of dragon Alex and his prince!

His dear friend Alex walks with him as he recovers and tries to move forward. The yearning in this story is so perfect and I loved the payoff at the end. Beautiful and absolutely pulls you in, but please consider the tags before reading.

This installment is a deep dive into Henry's background, his feelings about said background, and Alex's reactions when faced with that reality. Don't worry, though, the author helps alleviate the angst by taking advantage of the personality traits of a couple characters we all love!

@suseagull5914: If you're looking for a fic that has angst with a happy ending, this is definitely the first place I would start! Between the angst and writing skills of the author, I stayed up late multiple nights in a row just so I didn't end on too bad of a cliffhanger, and I absolutely loved every second of it! Not only that, but this fic helps the series come to such a satisfying conclusion, and, like The Throne He Deserves before it, paints such a good picture of just how far Alex will go for Henry- and Henry's response to that devotion. I'll say it again: I couldn't put this fic down!
Whatâs Up, Danger? (series) by @cultofsappho (book-verse)
@dot524: This story is a Spider-Man AU, and itâs so much fun! Since I first bookmarked it and added it to my TBR, itâs become a whole series, and the origin story might be my favorite. Alex is Spider-Man and Henryâs the one who finally found out what was going on with his boyfriend. But thereâs a lot of angst and terror that goes along with being the significant other to a superhero. I hope this keeps getting updates, because each installment stands on its own in such a unique way and I want more of this AU!

Itâs deliciously long, and every character â even Pez and Ellen â is perfectly written, adding real depth to the story.

In this Coffee Shop/University AU, Prince Henry has already left the UK to study in New York â determined to abdicate. But mentally, heâs not in a great place. Then he meets (non-famous) law student Alex, whoâs working part-time at a coffee shop. The pining, folks â I practically melted into the sofa. The dual POV is perfect â Henryâs longing and Alexâs teasing are a joy to read, and watching their feelings grow is delightful.

The story is written with such a gentle and tender touch that, despite all the pain, thereâs always a thread of hope running through it.

This was a reread for me, but when I realized it wasn't on our list, I had to fix it, because the author does an amazing job at not only characterization, especially of David, but Henry and Alex too, which is always quite the feat for a oneshot!

@dot524: This is a soulmate fic but set in a sci-fi world where your entire life revolves around your âtether.â Alex opposes the idea of tethering with every iota of his being, but things change when June becomes ill and he conspires with Henry (who heâs just met) to use the tether benefits to pay for treatment. This one held me spellbound and the world is so interesting. Lots of great interaction between Alex and his girls, with Henry, and with himself as he wrestles with internal turmoil to navigate the situation. A really intriguing story!

@porcelainmortal: I waited to start this wip (now complete) because I am so not a hockey girl in any way, shape, or form. Turns out that doesn't matter because this fic is so brilliantly written! The hockey is there, but the technical aspects aren't overwhelming and the focus is on the characters. A lot of the OCs are interesting and fun, but naturally, Alex and Henry are the center of everything. This story has absolutely gripped me and I can't wait for the last two chapters almost as much as I wish there was even more of it left.

There's only one chapter published so far, but there's a total chapter count, so it's clearly planned out, and the first chapter is 21k and basically starts right where the last installment chronologically, The Wait Before the Fall, left off, so there's plenty of the usual sentimentality and humor this verse is known for to tide you over until the next chapter, and personally, after reading the rest of the verse right before this, I couldn't hit the subscribe button fast enough- absolutely LOVE this fic so far!

@taylor-27: I've been following this wip for a while now andd i love it. Its definetely a canon divergence, there's some interesting yet true to character edits made my the author. Basically it's Alex and Henry's classic love story except what if Alex figured out he was bisexual before their story began. It sounds simple but it's a binge read! I love how the author has portrayed the characters, built on the dynamics of the super six especially Bea, Pez, Henry and Alex. In the end its just two idiots being in love, struggling to communicate and pining for each other more than victorian era damsels. Hope you all enjoy reading it as much as I am!

@taylor-27: Okay so, it's a president x vice president au where alex is the president at 40 and henry is his younger vice president, they've been working together for more than 5 years and have a friends (who are they kidding) with benefits situation. It's got plot outside of just romance, and is honestly gripping. I've been on the edge of my seat and I can tell that if (when) the angsty climax hits I'm gonna cry. There's both of them being so in love they could die, but would rather jump into an ocean than communicate that. Apart from all of the politics, safety threats and romance there's the most silliest banter and conversations we get to witness. Exhibit A- there's one point where Henry sends out an entire CIA team and declares a national emergency.. to rescue puppies. Shaan deserves a medal for dealing with them. Hope I've convinced you all to read this! I can't wait for it to be completed

@na-dineee: Is it fate or coincidence? Who knowsâbut one unexpected encounter throws Alex and Henryâs lives completely off track. A decade after meeting on holiday and being torn apart, they find themselves face to face again in the Scottish Highlands. This fic is perfectionâgreat pacing, a stunning setting, and the perfect blend of tension, fluff, and smut. Plus, it has one of the best epilogues Iâve ever read. I've revisited it multiple times and will definitely read it again.

It has the feel of a masterpiece and you can tell the author was really thoughtful with how to share this story. In it, Alex is a songwriter/songwriter and Henry is an actor, and they struggle with understanding themselves and keeping their relationship a secret. I love their process of getting to know each other and their fight against the world and for each other. Alexâs songs are so unique and fitting, and they tell the story too. Just a wonderful journey of a fic.
