Utopia // The Power of the Doctor
Behind the Scenes of The Runaway Bride (Part Four)
Excerpt from Benjamin Cook’s interview with David Tennant in DWM 378
BC: Now that you’re not only famous but also very rich, do you go mad with extravagance at Christmas?
DT: Yes, I do. I’ll be reclining on a bed of money, having champagne drip-fed to me by a harem of scantily-clad witches. I’d imagine that’s how I’ll spend Christmas.
BC: What are you hoping for from Santa?
DT: I’m not sure. Um - I know that lots of children are hoping for Cyberman heads this Christmas, so maybe one of those. On Boxing Day, thousands of kids will be running up and down the streets talking like Nicholas Briggs. He’ll be everywhere!
BC: Is that a good thing?
DT: Possibly not.
BC: I suppose we’d better mention The Runaway Bride…
DT: I’m still thinking about Nick Briggs.
BC: What do you make of the script?
DT: I love it. Actually, ‘romp’ is a good description of it. Or caper comedy. It’s got something of that about it, which is a good thing at Christmas. If it were a 1950s movie, it’d star Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn.
BC: Which one are you?
DT: I’m Katherine Hepburn, obviously.

the Eighth Doctor saying he's never really thought of himself as suicidal in 'The Last' is a bit hard to believe considering this was him a few hours after regenerating
and he then goes through with it anyway, bless him
but what if they hugged?? What if they touched foreheads??? What if they cried together????? What if they laughed together???? What if they loved each other SO DAMN MUCH??????
Doctor Who Last Christmas | 2014
the doctor who tv movie was good actually
like yeah it's weird, and surreal, and nonsensical at times. but it's so sincere and heartfelt and i think that the weirdness actually adds. because that's the point the film's making about life. yes, it's scary, and weird, and dangerous at times, but sometimes - just for one night - you can hold back death. grace is tired of life but scared of dying and by the end she's found a reason to live. lee feels powerless and aimless and by the end he's saved the world.
people meme on "these shoes they fit perfectly" a lot but i think that scene is actually one of the best in doctor who full stop. because before that the doctor's talking about being back on gallifrey watching a meteor storm with his father - "the sky above us was dancing with lights, purple, green, brilliant yellow!" and he's so joyous at the beauty of this universal thing, a meteor storm. and then it's back into the mundane, his shoes, they fit perfectly, but the joy is the same. it is all so beautiful.
How about we all stop talking for a little while

i'm still obsessed with the Eighth Doctor exiling himself to a universe without time to keep his universe safe from Zagreus, convinced that there's no cure for him and that he'll have to live the rest of his days with Zagreus inside him, unable to return to his universe because Zagreus would destroy everything and everyone he loves; refusing to take his best friend with him to protect her from himself and breaking her heart in the process; accepting his fate with bitterness and expressing his disdain for the Time Lords he had considered his heroes in the past; believing that, even though he will be trapped in another universe, at least he will have his TARDIS with him and they'll have new adventures together, only for him to lose the TARDIS as soon as he reaches the Divergent universe; losing his sense of identity as a Time Lord in a universe without time, comparing his existence in that universe to torture; and finally, the thing that saves the Doctor being Charley's refusal to leave him on his own, following him to the Divergent universe even when that means betraying his trust and his final wish of keeping her safe.
the retroactive dramatic irony of the Eighth Doctor looking forward to being in a universe free of the Time Lords. little did he know...
from 'Zagreus'
i just want donna to find out about the twelfth doctor, okay? maybe it's backyard brunch and she asks why a face came back again for her or something and the doctor has to be like, well, it's not even the first time that has happened. i want donna noble to find out that the doctor once regenerated into the face of a person she saved.

Immortal exes catching up
Would take place either in an AU post End Of Time or somewhere in the middle of that episode. Either way, craved more personal interractions with these versions of the master and the doctor. Man... look at my last remaining timelords.... we're doomed.....
i love the composition in these shots from The End of Time. the dark vs bright background. the Master standing in the dark while Rassilon and the Time Lords stand against a bright background, looking regal in their robes and almost ethereal. the Master's side stacked with furniture, warmer colours and even a Christmas tree, reminding the Doctor of his second home. the background on the Time Lords' side being cold, empty and uninviting, reminding the Doctor of what he left behind. the angel and the devil on the shoulder imagery. the focus on the Doctor's face while everything else is blurred. his sombre expression as he struggles to make this impossible choice. his suit tattered and his wounds on display, looking vulnerable and yet fearsome.
