It's a tradition I started 7 years ago, being inspired by my good acquaintance, who also did the same thing for years. If you're not a fan of writing verbose congratulations and/or, as well as I am, shy and/or socially anxious, but want to congratulate me anyway, you can simply give a like to this post and I will be very-very happy. ❤️

Well, in many aspects Rocky and Mau already have quite different personalities, and, if we make them complete opposites, that would’ve hardly been them in the first place, and moreover, I think their worlds wouldn’t have collided at all. I have a strong opinion that “opposites attract” works very badly in a long-term run, forgive me that belief. x)) But that’s a very interesting thought experiment anyway, thanks! 💖

Let's try to determine and define Rocky's core character traits. Rocky is poetic, wordy, erudite in an extremely weird combination of fields, playful, dramatic yet drastically optimistic out of desperation, incredibly impulsive, witty, ingenious, but not law-abiding, struggling with a lot of family issues, troubles with self-esteem, money and life in general. So, if we hypothetically maximally reverse Rocky and Mau and take Rocky as a basis for reversing, then Mau would’ve been The Lady. Sophisticated in a much more academic manner, confident, incredibly serious and reserved, pragmatic, lawful, realistic, well-mannered, rich and having a sturdy full-family foundation. She would’ve known from the start what her life path must be and would’ve followed it strictly. You know, the very honor student plus classy old-money lady archetype who expects you to kiss her hand as a greeting. The funny thing is, in theory such a scenario could've been mildly possible for Mau, if her mother's family took her from Augusto and raised her in wealth and comfort instead of abandoning her at birth. But I guess Maura would've lived her whole life in Italy then.

If these Rocky and Maura met, however, most probably Mau would’ve found Rocky sleazy and flighty at best, and he would’ve perceived her as yet another wealthy pretentious snoot. Maybe a fleeting, enormously sparky attraction with a lot of playful bickering could’ve arisen between the two, but the best outcome would’ve been the quick end of such an affair, and the worst… maybe a huge scandal, a miserable misalliance, an unwanted child and two broken fates.

The very reason why original Rocky and Mau work out as both close friends and a couple in my mind is that, first of all, despite very different origins and life paths their positions in society are very much alike, and second of all, their personal similarities and distinctions turn out to be well-balanced, and, thanks to that, the more time passes, the more they talk and interact with each other, the better they naturally get accustomed to each other and get along on a very intuitive level. That creates a strong bond between the two that lasts well into the days where they’re two unbearable-yet-adorable mischievous raisins. :D

That depends on the circumstances and who exactly made Maura that angry. Just like her father, she’s a choleric, so mostly she easily bursts and quickly calms down. If she got mad, most probably she’ll just start to shout and swear, pacing around and waving her hands dramatically, and then proceeds either to crying or to joking lamely, if the situation allows it, until she gets back her composure. Mau has a vast obscene vocabulary, and, unsurprisingly, most of the juiciest and the most explicit ones are in Italian, which she consistently kept picking up since her childhood by overhearing the adult people (her dad included) from her neighborhood in New York. You won’t ever make Mau hit someone out of anger or harm them any other way, like Augusto easily could. Only yell, but very loudly and… eloquently, to say the least.

However, I can see one very rare exception to this behavioral pattern.

You know you really screwed up if the most verbose woman you know gets speechless. So, if someone close to Maura really, really, really disappoints her (which, believe me, is a task with a huge asterisk), she will shut down, put herself to hard work until full numbness and stay silent for a few days, giving the silent treatment to this person until they boil themselves to the bones in guilt. This is a very unhealthy reaction, yet it is what it is. I can assure you, though, that your hands will be enough to count times when someone actually managed to put Mau in this state during ~80 years of her lifetime.

Gentler than sunlight 🌇

This year is maximally contrast to the previous one — I had almost no time and almost no opportunities to draw. Most of the things ended up unfinished. But almost all the finished arts here were made for the wonderful people around me in the Lackadaisy fandom, so that's a pro.

I also adjusted to Procreate better, tried a few new styles and solidified the fact that I love card-type arts more than anything. Those are pros, too.
