Chalk Muncher

[I am so sorry for being away again. My sister has had a miscarriage earlier this week and we've all been taking it hard. My sister and I aren't that close, but I still care for her very much. She was the only one who accepted me for who I was....

      Ah, fuck. Being yelled at made Kris flinch and jerk back hard. They knew Susie was afraid and reacted that way because of her fear, but that didn’t stop them from feeling a sharp stab of hurt.

     ‘Sorry,’ they sign frantically, before looking up at Susie a bit bleakly and nodding stiffly. They should leave, this place was creepy, Kris was feeling anxious, hell, Susie was freaking out, and —

         SLAM.

     The door suddenly closed. Kris nearly jumped out of their skin as they were both completely submerged into darkness.

       ‘Did somebody close it?’ They signed, but realized that the visibility here was close to zero. And so, all they manage out is a small eke. They carefully wedge their way over and try to open the door — to no avail. They felt their forehead starting to bead with sweat.

Panic snubbing out all reason, the girl pounds her fists violently at the door, “THIS ISN’T FUCKIN’ FUNNY!” She slams her body against the door, panting like a wild animal, “OPEN THE STARS-DAMN DOOR!!!!” She’d kill the fucker on the other side! Like hell she’d be stuck in this damn place with the biggest freak-

Before she could take a few steps back to really ram the door, the papers on the ground start glowing an eerie white color, as if it was alive. Hell, she could see Kris now! Not that it meant anything since there wasn’t anything here besides the two of them and the damn door.

Suddenly, the floor began to tremble and the papers that lined all the way to the door started to fall like leaves. Susie takes a few steps back in disbelief.

“Ugh, fine.”

They start to stomp off… only to run back and climb onto Susie’s back!

“I WILL BE TALLER”

“BITCH, WHAT THE FUCK!?”

+Susie+ { “Pfft- What’re ya’ sayin’? That I DON’T have pride?” Susie crosses her arms, her eyebrow arched. “I’ll have you know that I got all the pride I can have in my filthy, filthy mouth.” She flashes a snarky grin at herself. “Except when my mom tells me to brush these teeth.” 

That last comment was followed up by a small pity-laugh. }

“Aaayyyy! Us badasses gotta keep these teeth in prime condition! How else we gonna eat whatever the fuck we want and all?”

“It follows that a light fountain will exist somewhere… I’ve never heard of such a thing though.” It’s sure as hell never been covered in class at least. Maybe in the library?

There had to be some record of the dark world or it’s people in the light world that still existed. Even it it was just in myths and rumors. If Gerson were still around, they could have picked his brain as well, but… “We need more information first.”

A thin frown as Kris stared off. “We might want to consider who we can bring into this as well…” Kris wasn’t comfortable with the idea of wrapping civilians into this… but they got the feeling  it wasn’t going to matter what Kris felt at some point.

“What ever the case, if we can find one of these so called light fountains if they exist… I think I might have a better idea what to do as well and… As Ralsei’s knight anything I can do for his sake is worth it.” Ho. A bit of a bold proclamation. They gave a warm smile at that.

Tapping her chin with a finger, the Teen thinks if she saw anything in the library about stuff like that, but immediately shrugs. Stars knows she’d never set foot in the library for more than 4 seconds. Still, if there was any place in town that had info about the dark world, maybe that was it.

Then again...

“I always like screwing around in the woods, and I found a locked basement way past the cemetery. Thing is, it’s locked up tight as hell. Maybe that could be another way in? I mean, why else would they leave some weird ass bunker in the middle of our boring town?”

She freezes at the mention of bringing others into this and almost loses it, “Whaaaat?! Why would we do that? Hell! Who would even believe us in the first place!” The thought of others fucking up the Dark World or trying to hurt their friends made her blood boil that she almost missed Kris’s comment, “If we get others into this, you might not be the only knight.” 

Kris flinched away a bit, they really couldn’t even take a play-punch now.

“Actually, no.”

Susie was actually decently unscathed, and they themselves couldn’t exactly deal with any encounters alone right now. It would make more sense for her to watch if any more living dust jumped out, and for them to grab the items.

It should be easy. They just can’t fall.

“Do you think you could give me a boost?”

Raising a brow, she looks the kid up and down. Even she knew this wasn’t a good idea, “You do realize that you’re too fucked up for that, right?” Not that she cared or anything, but she didn’t wanna be alone in this fuckin’ place where Stars-damn dust bunnies try to kill them!

They flicked their tail from side to side, standing upright and straightening their hoodie.

“ Sorry, I’m a tad nervous - name’s Delmore. An right, sorry, I’m a monster. “

The monitor introduced themself, scratching the back of their head with a bashful expression. Their gaze measured Susie briefly, settling onto the chalk she choose as her snack.

“ Does it taste good? “

They qiuired carefully, flicking their forked tongue out.

This guy’s weird....

Taking another bite of her snack, the girl decides to be a little more polite, “Nice to meet ya, Delmore. What ya doing here in Hometown? Lost or something?”

She glances at their tongue for a moment before nodding, “To me, it is. Kinda like a powdered cookie. Best thing I can describe it.” Truth be told, she wished she looked more like Delmore. Longer tail, forked tongue. The works.

Bub just backs up not seeing them at first. “I dont know. Do you?”
