It is time for another encyclopedia poll! Over time, I have collected quite a few panels telling us some superheroes’ regular coffee order. Should that become a separate category from #time for a treat?

Does everyone do this or are they just stupid?

Like where is the constant aggressive fighting and lack of cohesion??? My brothers are openly talking about how empty their lives are without each other. You could not find two people more content and cohesive as partners.

Marv Wolfman upped their tendency to disagree about things yes, but one felt it was more of a slow build over a couple of years as Dick spent more time away from Bruce and especially with the New Teen Titans, developing his leadership role in the run up to Dick giving up being Robin, not because he hated or resented Bruce (if it had the decision would be easy), but because he'd outgrown it and Bruce eventually realises this and is proud of Dick for not only seeking his own path, but giving his old role to Jason. That was a natural, organic maturation that you could see both sides off but ends with the two of the acting like respectful grown ups.

They share a strange type of connection, an urge to keep their feet off the ground and fly, as fast and as far as they can, running away from a place that doesn't feel like home, where they don't feel like they belong. There is a deep and angry type of grief hidden behind clever smiles and corny one liners, and they allow themselves to scream it out only in the void of the universe, where every sound gets swallowed by darkness.

They meet eachother sometime, during their endless running, on planets light years away from earth, in questionable bars that would put a worried expression on Clark face if he knew. More often than not, they have blood on their clothes and adrenaline still running through their system, so they sit down side by side and challenge eachother to who manages to forget first. Red sun on the horizon and ring put to rest, they drink cheap alcohol and laugh, sharing stories about the stupid shit they have done and the people they've met. They argue over the songs to put on the alien juke box because "my planet exploded, so I'm the only one who knows what true good music is like" and "Shitty excuse for a shitty music taste. If you were on earth more often you would discover the wonders of-", and then end up drunkely swaying around in a poor attempt at dancing.

They don't talk about the losses, the regrets, the failures and the hurt it all left behind, like an ever bleeding wound slowly draining them dry. They don't mention the people they have on earth, they don't ask eachother if they are missed somewhere or by someone, if they are cowards for choosing not to stay.

They simply spend the night together, two children of the stars, restless souls wandering the universe, doing as much good as they can because that's the only thing that keeps them going. They drink and they laugh and they tell eachother "tomorrow is another shitty day" and "maybe I'll see you back on earth", and they know only one of those is true, because they only meet eachother when they are reaching rock bottom and need a couple of drinks to soften the landing.

They don't call eachother friends, even though when the bar fights start they stand back to back, even though they are always keeping an ear out for eachother's name after they go their separate way. Hal looks out for Kara because she's Clark little cousin and he owns him that much, and Kara does the same because Hal is Clark's friend and whoever makes her cousin happy deserves to be protected.
