just some relationship headcanons with hugo, he's been living rent free in my mind recently. hopefully none of these are insanely inaccurate to his character. (also, yes, title is a cas reference)
He has a strange fixation with your heartbeat, it's not particularly obvious at first, but after a while you can't help but notice how his fingers always linger on the pulse of your wrist. (When you get deeper into the relationship and the two of you become more comfortable with one another, you'll find that he likes to rest his head on your chest, properly listening to your heartbeat.)
"You're doing that thing again," you murmured, amusement laced into your tone.
"What thing?" he queried in response, tracing feathery circles on the pulse of your wrist.
"The thing you do with my wrist all the time."
He hummed briefly in thought, "It's because your heartbeat is soothing."
The two of you frequently go out on book dates. Local libraries, shops, it doesn't really matter, so long as Hugo's wearing a mask anyways. During these, there's a common trend of you guys getting into light hearted debates, sharing opinions and thoughts about books you wouldn't really do with anyone else.
On the topic of books, he enjoys annotating them a lot to keep his thoughts organised, so whenever you borrow one of his novels, you feel like you're having a little peek into his mind between the pages.
He's also a chronic info dumper, whenever the topic of something that he enjoyed reading comes up, he'll be talking about it to you for hours on end. Not to say you mind though, you find it very endearing whenever he does so. (Also when he uses onomatopoeia to emphasis certain points.)
He likes to maintain physical contact a lot. Keeping you close, holding your hand in public, wrapping his arm around your waist, standing right behind you before resting his head on your shoulder. It's never really sexual, just intimate, steady, warm. He also really likes showering with you, no proper explanation as to why.
Hugo practically never gets visibly flustered, and despite your best efforts, you've never managed to get more than a small 'oh' or slow, unsure blink. But, truthfully, he does get internally bashful every time you try something.
He'd never willingly say it to you, primarily because he doesn't think it's necessary, but he plans things out meticulously. Valentines, your birthday, Christmas, etc. He thinks about it fairly often when they roll around, and always spoils you with the best gifts, along with things you'd mentioned offhandedly only once or twice. Yeah, he really listens when you talk.

snuffy often watches practice from the sidelines, arms crossed, expression neutral, but his eyes soften when he notices you and lorenzo messing around between drills. lorenzo is loud, animated, impossible to miss. you match his energy easily, laughing, nudging, challenging him to dumb competitions that have nothing to do with football.
to outsiders, it looks like wasted time. to snuffy, it looks like something precious. he remembers how football once felt heavy, how joy disappeared before he realized it. seeing you both laugh so freely makes him breathe easier.
lorenzo treats you like a sibling he chose. he trash-talks you relentlessly, steals your water bottle, throws an arm around your shoulders mid-run. but the second someone else steps out of line? he’s in front of you without thinking.
snuffy notices how you ground lorenzo. you laugh at his theatrics but don’t encourage recklessness. when he starts spiraling, you pull him back with a joke, a look, a reminder. snuffy clocks it immediately, you’re stabilizing each other.
sometimes snuffy remembers his old teammate, the one he lost, when he watches you both. the way you play with heart instead of ego, the way lorenzo lights up when you succeed, like it matters just as much as his own goals. it hurts. but it also heals something.
during breaks, you and lorenzo sit on the grass arguing about food, music, or whose fault a failed drill was. snuffy pretends not to listen. but when he later adjusts the training schedule to include more recovery time, it’s because he heard you complain about exhaustion.
snuffy never interferes directly in your dynamic. he believes in autonomy. but he protects it quietly, shutting down media distractions, setting boundaries, ensuring you both stay mentally safe.
lorenzo thrives under snuffy’s guidance because snuffy doesn’t try to tame him. he gives him structure without crushing his spirit. you see it. and you mirror that same patience when lorenzo pushes too far.
there’s a moment after a particularly good practice where snuffy catches lorenzo slinging an arm around you, both of you grinning like kids. for a second, snuffy allows himself to imagine a future where football didn’t destroy what he loved.

snuffy never says it out loud. but when he watches you walk off the pitch together, tired, laughing, alive, he feels something close to pride, as someone who learned too late what truly mattered… and is determined to protect it for you.

a/n : im writing a paper worth 20% of my grade but i’ve been putting this off so this ain’t edited, nor will it be in the small font bc im a busy bee.. pls enjoy!!
being with you is the best thing that’s ever happened to kaiser. he knows that. he feels it every time you smile at him, every time your fingers slip into his, every time you curl up on his couch like you belong there.
and that’s exactly the problem.
you make everything feel easy. kaiser doesn’t. he never has.
you’re gentle with him without making a big deal of it. you read his silences better than his words. you never push too hard, never ask for more than he can give, even though a part of him thinks you should—thinks he should be better for you.
the first week after you got together is perfect. the second week is perfect too.
it’s the third when the doubt starts eating at him.
it’s small at first—little things.
you brush his hair back from his face one morning, soft and sleepy, and kaiser freezes because no one touches him like that. no one ever has.
“morning,” you whisper.
and kaiser thinks: you deserve someone who smiles back easily.
later, you show up at his apartment with homemade food because you “didn’t want him living on bread.” you say it casually, but kaiser feels something twist in his chest.
you stand in his kitchen, humming while you reheat everything, and he can’t stop staring at the way you fit there so naturally.
you deserve someone who knows how to take care of you like that.
he tells himself it’s fine. he can push the thoughts away. he always has.
but then you say something simple—something that breaks him more than any fight could.
you’re curled up beside him on the couch, your legs over his, head on his shoulder. he has an arm around you; his hand rests on your hip, warm and steady. you shift closer and sigh softly.
“i’m really happy,” you say.
kaiser’s heart stumbles.
he should say “me too.”he should kiss your forehead. he should let himself be happy with you.
instead, he goes quiet. too quiet.
you pull back just a little. “kaiser?”
“what.”
“you okay?”
he nods. it’s a lie. you know it.
you sit up, facing him. “did i do something wrong?”
kaiser’s breath catches. “no. you didn’t.”
“then what’s wrong?” your voice is soft, careful, like you’re afraid he’ll shut down completely.
he looks away. he hates himself for that.
and then—barely audible— “you’re too good to me.”
you blink. “what?”
kaiser clenches his jaw, eyes fixed on the floor. “you heard me.”
you stare at him, confused and concerned. “kaiser… i’m with you because i want to be. you know that, right?”
he shakes his head once. “you say that now.”
“i’ll say it tomorrow too,” you insist. “and the day after. and the day after that.”
“you don’t get it,” he mutters. his voice cracks just slightly. “i’m… i’m not easy to be with.”
“i know that,” you say gently.
he flinches.
you grab his hand before he can pull away. “and i don’t care.”
he finally looks at you, eyes sharp with something scared and vulnerable and raw. you’ve never seen kaiser look scared before. not like this.
“i want you,” you whisper. “not some perfect version of you. you.”
“why?” he breathes, almost desperate. “why me?”
“because you try,” you say simply. “because you’re honest. because you care more than you let yourself believe. because when i’m with you, i feel… safe.”
kaiser’s lips part, like the words made something inside him break open.
“and,” you say, leaning closer, “because i love you.”
the world stops.
his breath stutters in his chest. “don’t say that.”
“why?” you whisper. “because you think you don’t deserve it?”
he says nothing, but his silence is answer enough.
you lift his hand to your chest, pressing his palm over your heartbeat.
“you do,” you say. “even if you don’t think so yet. i’m not going anywhere.”
kaiser looks at you like he wants to believe you and hates himself for wanting it so badly.
he says your name—quiet, trembling.
then he whispers, “i’m trying.”
you smile, soft and small. “i know.”
he leans in first this time.
your foreheads touch, breathing mingling, and kaiser exhales like he’s been holding his breath for weeks.
his voice is barely a breath when he says it:
“i don’t want to lose you.”
“you won’t.”
“promise?”
“promise.”
and for the first time, kaiser nods. slowly. like he’s finally letting himself trust something good.
he curls into your chest, and kaiser wraps his arms around you—tight, like he’s afraid you’ll disappear, but gentle, like you’re something precious.
because you are. and even if he’s not ready to say it out loud, he loves you in a way that feels like it’s tearing him apart and putting him back together at the same time.

Omg this man is so complicated </3 i love him but i think he's not a good partner. He's not a hopeless case, but it will be difficult to deal with him being your boyfriend.
So, he's definitely letting his past affect the relationship, especially at the beginning of the relationship.
Talk to him and be very patient, he will understand and try to change, but know that it won't be quick or easy.
Contrary to what people say, I actually think he would not cheat on his s/o. I mean, he wants to be loved, and he knows well that to be loved, loyal is important.
When he's in a good mood, he can be very clingy to his partner.
He's not a monster, after all, but please explain to this man that his past doesn't justify his actions.
Don't get me wrong, sometimes he's a sweetheart to you. And at the end of the day, maybe he tells you that he's trying his best just for you, because he loves you so much and certainly would feel empty without his s/o (obviously he didn't tell you this last part, that would hurt his ego even more lol).
When he's feeling down, he will do anything to avoid you, because he doesn't want you to see the fragile side of him (maybe that will change with time).
He likes to feel superior, to dominate and to control you and your life, but he would pretend that he's not manipulating you, and letting you think that you are taking your own actions of your own free will.
When anything goes wrong he automatically blames you.
But don't worry, this all will be gone with time, conversations, and trust, he will slowly start to become a better boyfriend for you.

he’s observant but it doesn’t stop him from asking questions to make sure he understands you better, sometimes they’re invasive and when he realises he oversteps a boundary he’ll take a step back to apologise and ask a different, less invasive one instead - he just wants to get a better read on you
he’s great at keeping track of things you like, habits you do, slotting himself into your life like the missing piece - always takes photos of things that make him think of you or buying little trinkets he knows you like, even just texting you about the little things that happen in his day, small things that solidify the base of the relationship
seemingly perfect - until you catch how he’s constantly changing himself and adapting to you, how he tears himself apart and rebuilds himself after every little argument to be what he thinks you want of him rather than accept that you want him for him; it’d take a long time before he’s able to accept that he’s allowed to be himself around you and a lot of healing but if you’re patient? god he’ll be the best golden retriever boyfriend you could ask for
isagi can be a little avoidant at times, he’s able to confront people on the field but trying to stand his ground in an argument against you? he might get snappy and he never wants you to see that side of him, the ego that should only stay on the field and one that he barely keeps in check once he's out there
he kinda seems like the type to get flustered easily, a light blush on his cheeks and diverting his gaze away from you when he’s stammering to respond to you - but he’s also a little dense when you flirt with him, assuming you’re just being friendly and that he shouldn’t read into it that much → you might need to be more straight forward in your approach if you don’t want him to hit the mid-conversation spiral on “wait is this flirting? no but flirting would mean xyz, surely not, maybe this other thought train makes more sense”
nagi seishiro
he’s easy to please, a simple guy - provide a soft and warm environment for him and he’ll come walking eagerly
human blanket, he’s cuddly because it’s the easiest way to show his affection and he’ll often press his lips to whatever skin you have visible - not actively kissing at the skin but just keeping his mouth there as a comfort thing for both himself and you
kind of a toxic partner - not in the way that he does anything malicious but in the way that he doesn’t put enough effort in, it’s the kind of relationship that gets stagnant and too comfortable in the way he won’t change or grow with you because he doesn’t see the point of it, you guys are comfortable - what’s the point of changing?
he doesn’t remember important dates, he often forgets about dates in general - he outsources the information holding to you or friends (Isagi / Reo) - it’s not something you can fix either so compromises have to be made; he’ll need to be reminded actively and he does beat himself up a little bit over it in private but to your face he’ll shrug it off and say a simple ‘oops’
honestly speaking there’s such a high chance of you essentially dating Reo if you’re with nagi, it’s a two-for-one deal with how reo naturally makes up for all the things nagi might lack - aside from the physical affection at least

he doesn’t talk all that much, sometimes his bluntness is a double edged sword because he is the definition of “oh don’t mind him, he just talks like an asshole but he isn’t an asshole” - he means well most of the time it’s just his wording isn’t the best
he’s pretty exclusive on the people he keeps directly around him, and especially picky with those he’s more caring towards → there’s simply not point to him on being ‘nice’ to people who aren’t deserving of it (in his opinion at least)
he’s better at expressing himself through actions than through words and it really shows when he’s quick to pull you to safety or move his hand so you never bump your head on the edge of a table or anything similar
i feel like in a relationship with sae, he’s more of a listener than a talker, not that he won’t talk ever but he pulls his verbal punches back more - a bit reserved in the way he approaches arguments or anything of that like but more because he’s self aware enough to know that he might make things worse given his track record of speaking without really thinking how someone will interpret what he mightve actually meant
he likes privacy, he wants your relationship to be known as simply dating and for tabloids to leave you alone because he likes how sacred it feels to have your relationship be between you two - he’ll mention you occasionally in interviews if prompted but keeps the details vague, maybe he posts a few photos of the two of you together to announce “this is mine” but otherwise he seems like he’d prefer you to be his as privately as he can without making you feel like he’s embarrassed of you somehow

reassurance in selectiveness - he’s picky with the people he lets in so you know you’re in his good books given how he actively seeks you out for attention or even just a little bit of company, he likes the comfort you give him and he’s relatively patient when you ask him questions about soccer or about him - but you need to be patient with him because he’s not the best at opening up and will take some time to get there
simply put - a messy boyfriend. not because he doesn’t like you, it’s because he likes you that it gets messy and complicated at times
rin’s terrible at expressing how he really feels, he’s so wrapped up in his head and his own insecurities that he doesn’t realise the difference between telling you “you look good” vs “you’re not disgusting at least” is that one will make you feel good and the other will make you question if he hates you
be patient with him, be reassuring, don’t go overboard with kindness though because then he’ll assume you’re just sucking up to him as an in to his brother maybe, he’s still trying to get himself sorted with how he thinks about things and his composure is quick to crumble whenever he gets frustrated - but he’ll get there, just don’t mention Sae or Isagi
he’s so loyal but his behaviour treads on possessive tendencies occasionally, he doesn’t want to share your time, affection, anything about you should be his - and he definitely struggles sometimes when you’re your own person and need time away from him to do things, he’ll be a grouch about it and it takes him a few hours usually to get over himself and mutter a half assed apology for being an asshole about it but he gets better over time
karasu tabito
there’s something about Karasu’s subtle sass that makes him fun to talk to, even when he’s trying to be a complete asshole to you (he’s well aware he shouldn’t be) - if you bite back and match his energy, he lights up and is more likely to crack under the pressure and laugh at the silly quips you throw back in his face
solutions, solutions, solutions - trying to ramble to him or vent about anything leads to him offering solutions you don’t need right now and an on-going frustration over him being unable to just listen
he’s so observant that it feels almost.. vulnerable and invasive at times, he knows when you’re in a bad mood before you do but he sucks at doing anything to comfort you - most times it feels like he’s egging it on with how he keeps pointing it out and it can lead to arguments and yelling that has him blinking at you blankly before sighing and sitting back just to watch you all over again with that annoyingly perceptive gaze
he’s pretty physically affectionate, he enjoys playfully manhandling you whether it’s sweeping you off your feet when you least expect it or dragging your body into his whenever he wants to cuddle on the couch or in bed - even if you’re thrashing in retaliation he’s sassing you as he tucks your body against his, a kiss pressed to your temple as he gets you settled down nice and snug
not ashamed to gloat about you to others, often uses your relationship as a way to jab at others like a holier than thou speaking point bc “wdym you don’t have a loving partner? oh its because you fuckin’ suck dumdum” - he’ll tell you about it afterwards
You press another kiss under Karasu’s eye, making him gently squeeze your hips, “thank you, baby.”
“Did you know that beauty marks are just indicators of where you were kissed the most in a past life?”
Your rambling manages to crack a smile from him, his eyes peeking at you, “really? That right?”
The room has been quiet for some time now, you and Tabito merely enjoying each other’s company and time after a long week of not having any other time to. He smells good, so sweet and familiar with the brand of his body wash being one he hasn’t changed since before he met you.
You’ve grown to adore that scent.
“Mmhmm,” you hum, your hands planting on his chest and pushing yourself up from your laid down position. “Do you think I gave them to you in a past life?”
He puckers his lips out in thought, though you’re quick to bend down and steal a kiss, making him snicker, “I dunno- I’m kinda into the idea of you harassing me across different timelines.”
“Hey,” you pout, and he laughs and gently squeezes your hips again. You lean forward to lay back against his chest, nose burying into his neck and nuzzling the sensitive skin there. Your warm breath raises goosebumps on his skin, and you're quick to pepper more kisses there. “I think we were snails in a past life.”
“Oh yeah?” He asks. “Why do you think that?”
You shrug, “I don’t know. Just a hunch. And you know I’m never wrong.”
“You’re right, you’ve never been wrong once in this relationship.”
You grin, “I’m so glad you know that.” One of your hands slips over to lace your fingers with his, and he’s quick to bring the bundle of hands up to his mouth, kissing the back of yours. “I think we had sleepovers in your shell.”
“I don't think that's how snails work.”
You shrug. “I think you’d make an exception for me.”
“Of course I would.” He noses at your scalp and cuddles closer for comfort, "I'll always make an exception for you."
You smile and let your eyes flutter shut, allowing the warmth of his arms surrounding you to lull you to a state of peace.
