Being an evil doppelganger has to be so fucked up like imagine meeting a better version of yourself. Some chain of events going differently that led to "you" being a better person in a way you can never achieve. Personally I'd have no other option but to try and kill them
It's always "oh no my evil clone or twin or whatever is trying to kill me" and never How is my evil clone? Says a lot about society
Me, crashing the fuck out: you think you're better than me? You think you're fucking better than me???
My good clone, dodging a glass: I mean like objectively yeah

you could thank me for saving your ass back there. @rotheritor
something close to warmth filling the cavity of her chest, but eva paid it little mind. the urge to smile, the twitching of the left corner of her mouth making it OBVIOUS that she was trying to hold back the action. succeeded, if only barely. she couldn't afford walls to lower. because they weren't a TEAM, not in the ways that truly mattered at least. no shared morale, no deep friendship that bled into their movements. eva was cold, impersonal -- just getting through this.
"i'll save all of my thanks for the end of the mission so that i can get them all out in one fell swoop." her tone dry, her eyes locked on the path in front of them. never looking back, never flickering over to study the other's face or features.
(did she share any? were they entwined in any way? maybe similar dimples, familiar flecks of color in their eyes, mirrored nervous fidgets or movements? could eva find herself in rose, or vice versa? or was it that the only thing they truly shared was the knowledge that they both somehow survived the horrors of someone else's grief?)
snapping out of her daze as her right shoulder rolled and she glanced down at a puddle in the dirt. blood? no -- darker. an onyx ichor that had the faint stench of mildew and rot. well, at least they were on the right path.
"keep up, winters -- or else you'll be the one thanking ME for saving your ass."
"yeah, yeah, the mission - remind me again why i'm here?" their father's petulance spills through them, passed down akin to the colour of their hair and the mole below their eye, exacerbated by youth and isolation. rhetorical as it is, it is a question they already know the answer to : rosemary winters is a thing that should not exist, an aberration given form ; a sacrificial lamb since birth — differences only in the altar at which they are laid upon and who holds the knife.
there are echoes of it sometimes, the hazy memories of others filtering through the mutamycete. scenes playing out of order, no context with which to stitch them back together. with them, the traces of sentiment, filling up the hollow of their chest where organs would sit if they were like everyone else, alive and human, desperate to be special. something about eva feels like a noose around the neck ; an itch along the silvery scar tissue of their joints.
the same inexplicable grief encountered in that haunted house beyond the veil, the same intimate familiarity of looking upon a face they have never seen before.
distracted, the squelch of something wet beneath their shoe draws their attention — half a second before the veins along their hands flash into pale luminescence. the thought crosses their mind as they pull their sleeves down further, a shame taught to them despite their mother's efforts to uplift : what's the difference between that and me?
eva's voice snaps them back to reality. "yeah, right. didn't they tell you? monsters like me don't need saving," self-deprecation spoken with the disinterested tone of sarcasm, and edge of bitterness, "and before you freak out, it's fine, i'm not - i'm not infectious, or anything."
Bath Time by Sofiia Shpakovska
it takes a village to destroy a baby (powerful baby)
ᶠᶦᵍ ⁰¹ rosemary winters, photograph.
a familiar shape along the edges of her memory : the stain that lingers in the corners of their periphery, a dark spot unable to be identified ; it has been with them as long as they can remember. their body may have been stitched back together by the black hands of god, a surgery preformed under the eyes of four silent kings, soul pulled back out of the void and thrust into their body — something else had clung to it, unwanted, a parasite that had burrowed into the meat.
a name only learned when they threw themselves below the surface, deep beyond the veil. eveline. no explanation, no answers, just a name and a face to the imaginary friend that never wanted to play.
the world shifts into a darker tone. the ground beneath their feet still solid and yet, different — a near imperceptible rocking, a ship at sea, the sensation of water at their ankles. an unexpected humidity, the taste of iron between their teeth. they think of bodies in the water, of roadkill rotting in the sun.
✦ shadow, spectre, stalker : @e-type001 "I bet mommy doesn't even love you." her voice, echoing through the halls of the dream world. only a ghost haunting the half-living. "bet she wishes you were never even born."
"what is your problem?!" they are an amalgamation of their parents — their father's self-ascribed victimhood, their mother's bone-deep guilt, "whatever mommy-issues you've got going on isn't my problem, kid. you're like, what, twelve? get over it or leave me out of it."

'girldad leon' this 'girldad chris' this - there's already girldads and they're barry burton and ethan winters. both of whom are the best at it and cannot be beaten sorry. jack too, but he's more... your average father ( lets not kid ourselves and pretend a white christian cishet man in louisiana is gonna be Woke and even pre-mold he was beating lucas' ass which. IS deserved don't get me wrong but. you know ).

i am so so tired of the fact more content exists of leon and rose than rose with her own mother. chris did not raise rose. do i think he was involved in her life? yes, that's the kind of guy chris is ( at least.. pre-re7 chris. idk what capcoms doing to him ) but he didn't raise her. mia raised her. mia homeschooled her. mia loved her. chris was in her life, yes, but all we get is one diary entry saying he talked to the school ( when she eventually went to a public school ) regarding the fact she's a mutant ( because, you know, biohazard risk ) which someone would have done anyway, it was probably chris because he has a good reputation in general and a relationship with the winters. i absolutely reject the notion that chris is trying to recruit a sixteen year old as part of his team ( let alone the fact that specific team still exists and is a part of the bsaa by 2036+ ??? ) and think rose was just making a joke about that. obviously she knows hound wolf squad, particularly charlie, because there's a reason miranda picked him to impersonate. mia absolutely would have needed support, both as a grieving mother and a molded herself, but she still raised rose. that's her mom. she did not abandon her or give up on her.
chris did not raise her. chris and leon are not her dads ( idc for chreon but regardless, she has two parents, thanks ). i don't think she really knows most of the main cast. claire and jill, probably. maybe sherry ( through claire and as an attempt to give rose 'someone she can relate to' even though the situations are totally different but if nothing else they can relate about being kept in confinement for circumstances out of their control but i digress ). anyone else? i don't know.

poking my head in here ( i only owe one reply so i'm taking it slow ) to say ninety percent of conversations with chris, rose is turning off their hearing aid. they've heard enough.
okay who is gonna talk about how the bsaa keeping rose in their custody purely because she is a different species is a violation of her human molded rights?
