          ‘ this goes without saying , dani ... but — ’ right before olive had dove into this deep conversation of promises and expectations , they’d simply been looking around at others : people watching . little comments and labels given to the various people wondering around town , laughing at their own dialogue for certain conversations here and there . only after the crowd died around them did reality come back full force , breaking its neck just to get olive’s attention back on it . ‘ — nothing can happen to you , okay ? i - you mean a lot to me ... i don’t even know what i could do to protect you , but just ... maybe stick around with me and ari’s dorm for a few days ? at least until all of this is settled ... ’ she drew in a quick breath before looking at their new home . ‘ something doesn’t feel right about this ... ’

          empty boxes somehow felt heavy by the prospect of her moving out , leaving the small apartment she’d known since her freshmen year . she dreaded the moment he appeared at her door because she didn’t know if she’d be able to not cry ; not over some lost love bullshit , but the simple fact she was moving onto something else , something new. she’d only given herself a day to gather everything she wanted to move into the dorm with ari while allowing the new tenants to keep whatever she’d left behind . her entire life seemed to exist within this room , and she felt the weight of it shift by the sound of footsteps. she didn’t bother turning around before blurting out the first question which came to mind . ‘ do you think you’ll miss our little ice cream dates ? or the stupid facetime calls while merely a few feet apart ? ‘ why was she always so sentimental ? she glanced briefly in maverick’s direction before shutting another box close . ‘ do you think the next tenant will put up with your shit like i did ? ‘

          no one knows how to truly talk to an ex of a friend , except olive . how does she do it ? by simply removing every little memory she has of either eliza or maverick together : to avoid awkwardness or her own blooming feelings for the latter . ‘ listen , eliza ! i’m being serious ... this whole job thing doesn’t define anyone ... i bet they wouldn’t even get mad if you came to help me a bit ? i could show you some small tricks that’d help a lot with this whole ‘ a g r i c u l t u r e ‘ department i’m making from scratch ? ‘ she felt defeated by her weak attempt to even start a conversation with eliza , but focused on the optomistic prospect of not making things somewhat awkward .

          ‘ you know ? ‘ first thing to come out of her mouth when she spotted sylvia a few feet away . it’d been days . each trickled by since the party with olive keeping herself hidden from the vast majority ; alcohol never mixed well with tension , so the party seemed rather a bad idea at the end of the day . ‘ i don’t think you did it ... like honestly ? i’m not being - well , me ? ‘ her honestly seemed backhanded by the end of her little spew , so she simply shrugged her shoulders while she read over their assignments . ‘ but — like ? if you did ... you could talk to me . no judgement here , just a listening ear ! ‘
