i was with my mother’s family and they were talking to me about my religious studies major. my great aunt asked me what the definition of hell was, and i responded “well i suppose it depends on who you ask.” and nearly all the protestants in the group decided that hell was “the absence of god” which i suppose is a fair answer, albeit not a universal one. my cousin’s wife was playing with her 3-year-old daughter and she says “well mommy says that hell is a mcdonald’s playplace” asdfghjhgfd
this 3-year-old girl is so fucking hilarious. her mothers have signed her up for a toddler yoga class, and so she has adopted a very unique language. this child also has an imaginary friend named “mom” which is, in her mind, the boss of her two mothers. for example, my cousin’s wife explained to me how her daughter got mad at them one time. the little girl situated herself in the corner of her crib, pretended to type on a cell phone and said “im writing an email to mom right now and telling her how bad you two are. namaste.”
the family’s Big Theory about “Mom” is that both my cousin and her wife are referred to as “Mommy” and “Mama.” The nickname “Mom” is not used in the house because it would just be confusing. However, when interacting with the world, people tell their daughter that they will “tell her mom” if she is doing something wrong. so this child automatically assumes there is this greater “Mom” figure that is responsible for distributing universal justice.
To be fair to the toddler, that’s pretty much how religions get started.
Our Mom, who art gonna hear about this,
I hope every writer who sees this writes LOADS the next few months. Like freetime opens up, no writers block, the ability to focus, etc etc you're able to write loads & make lots of progress <3

for fear that you find out
this actually comes up in the comic grrl power, about a more ‘realistic’ look into how superheroes that are sort of part of the united states military because of course you cant let something like that have no oversight or in private hands
one of the recurring characters is the lawyer, who specifically says ‘dont throw cars, it doesnt work and its hell on our insurance and liability’, and goes further to suggest things like ‘if you have eye lasers aim down, so you hit the road instead of possibly inhabited buildings’ among many other lawer things
I should not have watched Bleach and Dead Like Me in the same day one after the other after taking an edible but I had a stroke of genius and had to write it out.
Dead Like Me stars an 18 year old girl named George (short for Georgia) who dies after being crushed by a toilet from a space station that exploded. Her soul is removed before her body got obliterated thanks to a reaper. However, now George has to reap the souls of the recently deceased to allow them to pass on into the afterlife while also meeting various other unique grim reapers in a waffle house to help guide her new undead life.
Bleach is about a boy named Ichigo who has the ability to see ghost until one day he runs into a Shinigami or Soul Reaper by the name of Rukia and thanks to a few series of mishaps he ends up having his soul removed from his body and becomes a soul reaper to fight hollows, the corrupted souls of the deceased who couldn’t pass on into the afterlife. As well as meeting a large and unique cast of soul reapers to help him.
Both Bleach and Dead Like Me establishes that there’s a whole network of reapers working around the clock reaping souls for the afterlife. Reapers in both shows are invisible but can be visible to certain people but in Dead Like Me they can become visible but will look like a completely different person to people who are alive.
In Dead Like Me there are these mysterious supernatural creatures called Gravelings mischievous ghostly beings who causes the accidents that kills people. Reapers aren’t allowed to interfere with the Gravelings actions. We also learn in the first episode that if a reaper doesn’t do their job and reap the soul then the soul will decay and rot and it’s implied that the souls can turn into graveling. Coincidence, I think not.
According to Bleach’s spinoff Burn the Witch there are different division of the Soul Society and each of them treats hollows differently and refers to them with different names. In Japan they’re called hollows and Soul Reapers just kills and purifies them. In London they’re called Dragons and they’re protected and controlled by their reapers who are named witches. So what are they called in America? Here’s my answer it’s Gravelings.
That’s right Dead Like Me is actually about the American Division of the Soul Society. The Reapers of America have learned to pacify and work with the hollows which they refer to as Gravelings however unlike the Japanese and Europe division the reapers of America allows the gravelings to cause harm to humans both to make their jobs easier to reap souls and because of some belief in fate.
