The Icelandic Highlands left a lasting impression on me with their remarkably diverse landscapes. In some places, the terrain resembles the surface of the Moon, with vast stretches of black volcanic sand and craters. In others, a thick carpet of moss transforms the landscape into vibrant shades of green.

One feeling remains constant: the sensation of being completely alone on another planet. Few people venture into this harsh and remote wilderness. There are no towns, villages, or houses, and the Highlands are only accessible between mid-June and early September.

Looking closely, the seemingly barren black sand reveals delicate life. Tiny purple, white, and pink flowers emerge from the volcanic soil, adding unexpected colour to an otherwise stark landscape.
