Genji has two “agent IDs”: 3945_49 in Recall, and 2741_62 in “Retribution”.
Normally, I would say this was a simple mistake, but McCree’s ID is actually the same between both - 3945_45.
All the other agent IDs in Recall - Reinhardt, Torbjörn, Mercy, and Tracer - start with the four digit code of “3945.” This implies that “3945″ is the standard Overwatch division and/or active Strike Team agent ID. Which has interesting implications for both Genji and McCree.
For additional reference, in Retribution, the IDs of the four agents are:
Gabriel Reyes: 4568_15
Jesse McCree: 3945_45
Genji Shimada: 2741_62
Moira O’Deorain: 1258_89
This seems to imply that Blackwatch may have used multiple codes, possibly for sub-divisions or sub-agencies, or may have assigned mostly unique IDs to agents (possibly to help protect them and/or protect any mission-specific intel?).
If this is intentional, then Genji’s ID number being changed from 2741_62 to 3945_49 seems to imply that he was reassigned to the Strike Team division before he left (which is something people speculated about with Doomfist’s release, since Genji is fighting alongside Tracer and Winston).
The other interesting point of speculation is McCree. If McCree’s agent ID never changed, then he appears to have always been classified as a Strike Team agent, which is…odd given that he spent all his time in Blackwatch. However, if the use of multiple agent IDs in Blackwatch is true, then this might indicate his level of classified clearance during Retribution? Again, if this is true, this may also imply that each agent during Retribution had a different “agent status”, which goes along with the heavy implication that all four Blackwatch agents were acting on different levels of knowledge and intel during the mission (which is part of the “Moira was already a Talon agent” hypothesis).
Mainly speculation but this detail struck me this morning.
