Vox’s backstory is further emphasizing how different he and Alastor are but also explaining why Vox thinks they’re the same.

Vox assumes that they are the same breed. The serial killers of media.

The difference is that Alastor, a BLACK MAN in the 1930s got his radio show on his talent, charm, and hard work. Yes he killed, but he killed in a way that JEOPARDIZED his position. He remained under the radar, and he was smart.

Vox, a white guy in the 1950s, killed to get ahead. He was promoted by default (though charm helped) into positions he opened for himself, only to die due to his own carelessness and hubris (like bro secure your tvs goddamn)

Part of Alastor’s deals with Nifty and Husk seems to be the stipulation that they will help him in battle. He picked a fight he couldn’t win (at that moment) because he would normally be able to pick up any slack.

By reacting to the gun in nifty’s face he is effectively playing a longer emotional game. Nifty is going right back to the hotel talking about how Alastor got captured by bad boys etc. Husk is going to be absolutely shell-shocked and report that Alastor sacrificed himself to save Nifty’s life (he probably won’t totally buy it but will relay all of the important details and admit that’s what it looked like).

Charlie is going to FREAK. OUT.

The idea of Alastor being redeemed hasn’t occurred to her in over a year, HOLY SHIT. she screwed up with Angel but she won’t this time!

Charlie shows up and shit rocks the Vees without needing basically any prompting. This will help Vox realize how outclassed he’ll be in Heaven and will trigger a power-up arc for him.

Meanwhile, Charlie tells Alastor that she truly believes he can be redeemed and he plays along. He tells her that he doesn’t think he can be redeemed because of his soul contract with Rosie. Charlie will immediately start trying to break it and will eventually succeed BUT Alastor will become incredibly weak as a result.
