Holding the sweetest mangoes from the father of a colleague whom I am treating for colon cancer.

After having his first cycle of chemo, we met at the clinic. He broke into tears— he lost his appettite and developed severe abdominal pain. He was apologetic telling me he tried his best but he just couldnt.

It’s okay to feel that way, I told him. There is always a plan B for your treatment. Be kind to yourself.

This Holy Week, I also prayed for my patients currently admitted at hospital. This brings to mind one of them— she is a colleague with stage IV cancer. She was admitted for breathlessness and cancer-related pain. On one of our conversations, she told me she wants to be as comfortable as possible. She added she is more than ready to die.

I admire and acknowledge the valor of these cancer patients, wounder healers that they are, to face abd accept death as it is.

The best tasting cookies are the ones baked out of love and hope.
