dragging sofia kicking and screaming into my novel (because i never stop thinking about the time meg drew cowboy sof for me) was the greatest decision ever bc she went from a fun concept: sof but a cowboy! :) to a gnc war veteran who has annoying beef with the local banker because sometimes she cheats at cards but sometimes HE cheats at cards, so she fights, and sof inevitably wins because she's like a foot taller than him and a hell of a lot meaner, and then she has to spend the night in jail because "you can't go 'round fighting everyone" and she's like "yes i can" and then he hides a moustachioed smile with a shake of his head and unlocks the cell because she's about the best unlawful lawman in town, keeping the saloon clean of the true vagabonds and ne'er-do-wells. and he knows if he ever told her how helpful she is, that she'd immediately leave town again or STOP being helpful because she can't stand the idea that she's a positive influence on any of these people. and she sees how the girl from the store looks at her with stars in her eyes, and is deliberately cold with her because sof knows that her daddy left town to be a cowboy and she doesn't want the girl to get the same idea. she doesn't know why she cares, but she does. UGH.
