The irony of this new breed of self-righteous AI hunters on AO3 is that they're all just copy and pasting peoples fics into AI detectors, which are all operated by AI and therefore THEY are feeding people's work into the algorithm without their consent and in some cases no doubt circumventing the locks people put on to avoid getting scraped...
Don't copy and paste anyone's AO3 work into third party websites, you're not the good guys in this situation?
Reblog cause FACTS
Also, AI was built on people's work, so of course some would look like it. Stay the fuck away from my ellipsis and em-dashes.
When I was in college, our professor had (university policy) to use Turn It In Dot Com, and every semester at the beginning she would warn people about why she did not adhere to the policy that, "If you come back yellow, orange, or red, I have to flunk you- I won't, if you are yellow or orange, I'll let you know and let you touch up your paper, if it's red, you will need to come to my office for a discussion". Yellow was "slightly plagiarized", Orange was "very plagiarized", and Red was, "You basically copy and pasted someone else's work". But here were her reasons:
>A student her first year of using the website, had his paper come back Red. When our teacher investigated, it turned out that the student had enjoyed the research he did on the subject so well, he ended up writing several Wikipedia articles about the subject. He wrote the Wiki articles AFTER writing the paper, yet the website still flagged his paper as nearly 100% plagiarized on something his paper predated in existence.
>She had another student who got flagged as Orange. When she got to looking, the portions that were flagged were the footnoted, works cited quotes from the books the students were REQUIRED TO QUOTE in the paper. Literally, in the rules for the assignment, you had to quote at least 4 of the 10 possible books the teacher assigned and at least 2 other books of your own researching, plus quote at least 3 journals/articles on the subject. Because the student followed the rules, the website flagged them as having a lot of plagierization, because the website could not recognize where people had put quote marks and had citations.
>This teacher taught a class on Italian City States, another on the Renaissance & Reformation, a class on Italian Cathedrals/architecture, and a fourth class on the Catholic Church/The Vatican. As such, she often had students who took all of her classes, and she used some of the same books across all of her classes. So, she had one set of students who the website flagged them for plagiarizing their own papers they wrote the previous semester, because they quoted the same books, they had the same opinions of those books, etc. This meant she had half the class one semester, come back orange or red, and when she looked, it was because they wrote papers too close to papers they had already written, combined with the quoting-issues.
I don't trust A.I. detecting websites to do any better, and that's before we get into how they are actively FEEDING A.I.
Do not feed the trolls, people. A.I. are evil trolls, don't feed them, let them starve.
NEXT
This is the cover of my new comic, The Meteorite Blade, which should be coming out next year in a really nice riso-printed edition done by the incredible creature-comforts-press NY. It's finished now though, and I'm too excited to share this thing with the world to keep it under wraps until next year, so I'm going to be posting it here, on tumblr, on this new blog! I hope you'll follow along. thanks!!

And just realized I forgot to do work on one of the towers...also there's something amusing that I completely forgot that there are circle, curve and straight line tools. Would have made the buildings a lot easier. But live and learn for next time.
damn people rly hate type 2 diabetics don't they
i (type 1 diabetic) was explaining autoimmune diseases to someone and she was like ohh right so yours is the good kind of diabetes where you didn't do it to yourself. to which i objected that's not how type 2 works either. and she said well that's the fat old people disease. and i was like you can't say that, a) not how it works and b) extremely rude. and her defense was her grandparents have type 2 and "did it to themselves" and since they're fat old people she reserves the right to hate on them. i understand hating shitty grandparents but YOU are the shitty one here to hate on them for their medical conditions and weight rather than literally anything else. hello?!
anyway type 2 diabetics i'm sorry about the world. everyone* be kind to type 2s or else
*note to type 1 diabetics especially we need to be better at solidarity and not cling to being the "good ones" at type 2s' expense. what the fuck is a good kind of diabetes anyway
also worth saying diabetes is a complex reaction to a not-yet-fully-understood set of factors and environmental pressures and genetics and it's reductive and fatphobic to say fat=diabetes BUT EVEN SO no matter if someone did incontrovertibly "give themself diabetes" that's not a free pass for dehumanization. shut upppp
do you have a favorite bird?
The more birds I learn about the more love I have to give to them all :]
Having said that I am a big fan of shrikes, hence the pfp
Lost you to the gathering night
my mom just had a 7cm brain tumor removed and since she's woken up she's been talking nonstop about this dream she had about going to an art gallery full of colourful paintings by a 'homosexual artist' named klimsdorf who was ethereal and wise, both young and old... at first she was convinced he was a real person but after failing to find him online she's accepted he was a figment of her subconscious mind and is now determined to bring him to life via painting his portrait herself. she's 67 and has never drawn in her life. and now this. blorbo from her tumor

okay so anyone who follows me knows I am always always always bitching about artists depictions of trans women but like holy shiiiit this is REALLY good. Like soooo much art that isnt by trans women fall into two camps of "draw a cis woman and later say shes trans" or "draw the most virulently transmisogynistic caricature possible" but this piece is just so..... real? Like, there are real actual trans women who look like this for once in a billion years. this kicks ass

Fantasy worlds always have large, beautiful moons, sometimes a few of them in pretty colours. We should have more fantasy worlds that have like 112 piece of crap tiny lumpy moons that are horrible and pointless.
They have a whole astrology system based on their awful moons and eclipses are bullshit because it just looks like a piece of gravel being tossed past a light.
112 peice of crap moons
Rings. That’s what rings are. All the planets with a fuck ton of shitass moons have rings. You’re just making the night sky cooler.
I bet they look like shit from underneath
There's some physicist from Idaho that did a series of what different locations on Earth would look like if Earth had Saturn's rings. Article was saying that depending on your latitude, the rings could appear as a straight line overhead, or a sort of rainbow arch higher up. Fun idea to toy with.
