But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting.  Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible.  Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible.  Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.

What if you were a little demon. Just a small guy. A prince, sure, but just a soft boy (/snake). The people of the Underearth have a cultural exchange with this one plains peoples. When their people die before their time, and their role in society still should be filled, they ask your people to send a demon to take over their fresh corpse. You're going on this cultural exchange to become Enna, a young woman who passed away. You play games with her cousins, trying to remember her memories for them. You're going to marry them, and have their children.

Then your people are wiped out by an invading force. They've wiped out plenty of peoples. You're just another one on their checklist. You're captured, to be put in a zoo. And a human prince saves you, because he's also grief-mad but refusing to give up hope that they can do something. Anything. Any kind of way to strike back. You can drain life with a touch but he won't stop putting an arm around you. Holding you. He touches you all the time. You're so touch hungry, after all this time of people being just a little afraid to touch you, of all this time spent in chains. He doesn't want to weaponize you, but you'll weaponize yourself for him. You're just a little guy, but you will become what they think demons are. You'll kill and kill to try to make this man's dream come true. He wants to unburn the world that monsters have burned for both of you. You learn how to use your own pain to cast horrible, powerful magic, because you refuse to use anyone else's. He tries to bind your wounds. You'll take an arrow for him. You'll take ten arrows for him. It's fine. You can heal. You'll break every vow your people have made for him. You'll hop to new bodies. You'll become something new. You love him. He trusts you. He wants you by his side. He fixes his flaws for you. He treats you like a person, always. You've become the demon everyone must fear. He falls asleep on you. He holds you while you cry.

He's mortal. Half the story is set sixty years later. You may never be okay again, but the world still needs unburning.
