Entering from the central fortified gate, in the background we see a fairly new icon of Panagia of the Burning Bush with the Patrons of the Monastery, Prophet Moses and Saint Catherine - a 20th century addition. [source in Greek]
i havent stopped thinking about this tiktok and wanted it on my blog
[VD: A TikTok from @/soupygarbagejuice. It starts with a clip captioned "Biggest Croissant In Malaysia", of a waiter bringing out a large plate with a massive croissant on it out to a woman at a table. Voiceover says "Today I wanted to eat a Croissant–". A man stitches the video, greenscreened over the final frame. Transcript is as follows:
"A few months ago, this was the last TikTok I saw before falling asleep, and I didn't dream about croissants, I didn't dream about her. Every single dream that I had for a while took place in a reality where Billy Joel– one of Billy Joel's greatest hits was called 'The Biggest Croissant in Malaysia'. It just existed, it played on the radio, people would talk about it in the background, 'He played it at The Garden last night'! So at one point I woke up and did my best to recreate exactly what it sounded like in the dreams. [Singing over piano and drums] She ordered the biggest croissant in Malaysia! She ordered the biggest croissant in town, cause Daddy's not around anymore! He's in Singapore, he's in Singapore!"

as humiliating as it is to repost myself from a light-mode-user's reddit screenshot, i cannot allow this year's zenquish to go uncelebrated.
celebrate my favorite holiday with me, my friends.
if the emperors of rome can add extra months that actually fuck the calendar up i'm allowed to add a new month that lasts 0.0000 picoseconds
the last holiday that hasn't been commercialized
i made this up when i was a little kid and nothing would make me happier than to see people celebrating it for years to come
zenquish approaches. prepare to rejoice! briefly!

My best friend died of adrenal carcinoma (cancer) on this day 21 years ago. Please, in your charity, pray for the repose of Lori Ann Blakeley.
I drew this on my phone using one brush. It doesn't feel finished, but I'm finished with it lol.
In 1899, people were walking around shouting '23' at each other and laughing, and confused reporters were writing articles trying to figure out what it meant.

You know, I’ve heard and done a lot of grumbling about people who pour so much into making a grand church building. I would personally prefer a church that meets in believers’ houses, if such a thing existed in my area, and I have seen churches that become so caught up in maintaining or expanding their building that they seem to neglect God and their community. I have thought, rather sneeringly, that God could be found in a muddy field if two or more were gathered in His name there, so what do we need the stained glass for?
So, reading this passage and seeing God Himself commanding this elaborate tent to be built was rather jarring. But, upon thinking about it…humans are physical beings as well as spiritual beings, and in this life at least, we cannot separate the two. We largely rely on what we can see, smell, taste, touch, and hear to form our beliefs, our thoughts, and our emotions. And we are very, very attracted to shiny things. Shiny things make dopamine go brrr. So, it makes sense that a physical place Set Apart from the rest would be conducive to putting us in a worshipful mood (to say nothing of making it easier for the community gather), and it makes sense that putting the Shiniest Things inside it would help us to remember that how precious and awesome the One we’re worshiping is. And in the case of the Israelites building the Set Apart Place for the first time, it makes sense that giving their own Shiny Things up to the special place would be a way for them to show their love. I’ve felt so down lately because nothing I make or do feels good enough for God, because He made it all Himself, but I think it’s like…like a kid bringing their parents a crayon drawing, you know? The parents bought the paper and crayons, but they’re still touched by their kid’s present, because their kid was the one who made it.
Like, I’m not saying that God CAN’T be found in a muddy field, or that people don’t need to be careful about not prioritizing the building over the God and the people it’s supposed to be for. But…I think that big, decorated churches aren’t inherently evil or bad, either. I think they can be a gesture of worship, and a tool for worship.

I hope this joke outlives the context that made it, leaving future generations baffled.
I love that a lion with an eagle's head and wings is such a well-known mythical beast but apparently the English language can only agree on a grand total of 3 out of 7 letters in its name.
Regex that ought to match (most) spelling variations of this mythical beast's name:
gr[iuy](?:ff|ph)[eioy]n
I write it either as gryffin or griffin
But
Gruphon, gryffon, griphen (sounds like the plane, grippen, lmao), gruffin and others would be enlightened spellings

That's one hell of a conspiracy theory you're believing, bud. Just out of curiosity, who's "they"?
Funny story, when I went to my doctor for a referral to a psychologist, they sit you down with some guy who has mental health training first to see what kind of psychologist you need. And I was talking about how I didn't want to do xyz, bc I was afraid they would make fun of me.
This guy asked me exactly ^ that question, and I cannot get it out of my head, every time I'm too afraid to do something bc of social scrutiny.
Nah, don't put an apology for the derail in the tags, this is great. So often we just have this notion of "they'll think less of/hate/reject me" and yet we're incapable of putting any names to this supposed group. We know our friends and people we care about wouldn't act this way, but the mind decides that fear has to keep existing even without a good reason and so the nebulous "they" pops into existence as the justification.
In elementary school, my best friend and I had this game we would play where we were school supplies living inside a child's desk and going on slice-of-life adventures inside it. And I remember that a key component of our school supply society was a sort of religious schism that existed around the purpose and nature of the giant hand that occasionally reached in to grab different citizens, use them, and then return them, because most school supplies considered this an auspicious and enviable moment of being selected for a greater purpose and allowed a glimpse of a vast truth, but pencils considered it a horrible portent of doom because they always got sharpened during it and came back smaller and closer to death. We were third graders btw.
