Bright or traditional? We have the latest trends. The front door is the face of your home, it's the first thing guests will see and notice about your property. It's also where many home-owners often feel they have a little more freedom to go wilder with colour.

People often pick colours for their front door that they wouldn't pick for their internal walls.

A front door is the perfect place to express your inner craving of colour – bright yellows, pinks or turquoise?

So, are you ready for a change? And what colour will you paint your front door? We've spoken with paint experts to see what colours people are favouring for their front doors at the moment.

1. Bright and bold If you would like a statement front door, vibrant colours like pink, yellow, turqoise or red can create a stunning entrance to your home even on a grey day.

'You should never shy away from being bold and bright with your colour choices for the front door, it’s the first impression you give when people visit your home, so an excellent opportunity to showcase your personality and really add some curb appeal', says Kasia Wiktorowicz, colour expert at Valspar. 'A cheery yellow can complement red brick excellently', she adds.
 Meanwhile, a rich purple can give your home a modern feel and really turn heads, Kasia explains, while a zingy orange is a fun and friendly colour option.

If you would like your home to stand out and make more of an impact, try a more adventurous colour such as Incarnadine or Yellow Cake, says Charlotte Cosby, head of creative at Farrow & Ball.

2. Neutrals and greys If you're not feeling quite that adventurous and would prefer to play things safe, greys, black or greens are classic and sophisticated. 'In the same way that we’ve seen a trend in greys and pastels for interiors, people are also turning to these popular shades for the exterior of their home' says Kasia.

3. Sage greens Colour and design expert at Cuprinol Emily Simpson explains that the colour you choose for your front door can enhance the aesthetic of your home and complement the exterior of your whole house.

Choosing a colour such as sage that takes inspiration from natural palettes can blend beautifully with the surrounding greenery of the outdoors.


4. Dark and stormy If you have decided to steer clear of brights and opt for something more classic, Charlotte recommends using dark colours such as Studio Green or Railings from Farrow & Ball.

For a more traditional finish, use a high gloss or, for a relaxed feel, an exterior eggsell finish in softer tones.
