I don’t feel that way at all. It wasn’t lesbians on tumblr who took the word and made it a sexualised/adult-orientated thing, like lets just recap music just over the last fifty years or so:

It was old fucking gross dudes like sixty years ago who started bleeding this idea of the word daddy being a sexualised thing into our media so that young pretty women would be indoctrinated by popular culture to fuck–you guessed it–old fucking gross dudes. 

In the context and definition that they created and perpetuated: a Daddy is supposed to be an older man, powerful, financially secure, settled in his life, well respected, who wants to love a young woman the way she deserves to be loved because all other men are trash.

I take the way lesbians use the word Daddy as a pet name for their significant other to mean this: you are a powerful woman, settled in your life, well respected, who makes me feel safe, who treats me the way I deserve to be treated. And by the way, it’s not just us who have co-opted the word. I see queer and heterosexual Gen Z female teenagers all the time using the word to prop up other young women as being powerful and respected, going one step further and removing the sexual connotations completely.

If anything, I find it stranger that other words like: baby, baby girl, princess, etc, seem to get a subconscious free pass from popular scrutiny? Quid pro quo, do you think maybe it’s because we’re way more comfortable as a society with a woman being called pet names designated for little girls than we are with them being called words that men decided signified power?
