Summary: Andy has finally escaped the hold his mother and the life had on him. And can finally live the life he's always wanted with the (somehow still secret) family he already built on the side.
A/N: I had a dream with a faceless guy and a baby in a Snoopy onesie. And all I thought of when I woke up was just Andy. Sooooooooooooo here's the fruits of my labour.
The house was filled with quiet noise as the afternoon sun finally said goodnight over your home. The TV played quietly with Loony Tunes as the pan below you sizzled. Your 3 month old daughter, Daphne, who everyone (that actually knew about her) called 'Baby Snoopy', was in a deep sleep after having her bottle about two hours ago. Which should've been the time Andy was going to call you.
You hated how he could barely be here. But the bitch Smurf would catch on pretty quickly if he spent every night here. And you do not, want her near Daphne at all. One finger and you'll cut it off. That was your promise of protection, and you'll stand by it with your final breath. You were broken out of your focusing when your phone buzzed in your jeans pocket, quickly fishing it out you saw the familiar name that you loved so much pop up on the screen. You instantly answered with a whisper.
"Hi... Sorry I'm whispering, she's asleep." There was the quiet muffled rumble of the car engine in the background as Andrew grunted slightly. Like he was getting into the car itself.
"So it's a bad time to tell you to pack your stuff because we can finally get out of here?" You nearly dropped both your phone and the wooden spoon all at once.
Did he... No no no. You misheard him. He hasn't escaped that bitch's iron hold over him. No. No not yet. He couldn't have...
"This is a really nasty joke Andy..."
"Not a joke sweetheart. Definitely... Not a joke." You let out a shaky breath as tears of relief finally left your eyes. You've been waiting for those words for the longest time. You've been waiting for them since the day that test showed positive. "You let Baby Snoopy sleep for a little longer. I'll be there in 20. Hopefully. Maybe 25."
"Okay... Okay. I can do that." You fanned your eyes quickly as you turned the stove off and put the pan to another burner. You completely forgot to even say a goodbye or an I love you to him as you hung up and quietly rushed to your bedroom. You grabbed your suitcase from under the bed and threw it onto the mattress. This was it. This was the start of something that will finally allow you three to be a family. Something where Daphne doesn't have to constantly be confused on who Andy was before he fell asleep with her on the couch for her to remember.
You started to pull everything you wore the most out of your closet and dresser. You didn't need everything. Just the things that were the most important to you. Like your first ever maternity dress. Or Pope's jumper he gave you so he could be with you that way when a job took him away from you. Those types of things.
By the time you had started getting Daphne's clothes and necessities into her bags, you heard a car pull up out front and the driver door open. Finally.
You met him half way in the kitchen as he shut the front door behind him quietly. He looked drained. Exhausted. Done with everything. But you swear, as soon as he saw you and his baby girl in the background, he felt some life seeping back into him.
"There's my girls..." He wrapped you up in a hug quicker than you could even move or say hello to him. You didn't hesitate to hug him back as tight. Most likely even tighter. "I fucking missed you... So much."
"I missed you too Andy. So did Snoopy. She started to cling harder every time I wore your sweatshirt." You felt his arms tighten at that. You didn't know out of what emotion, but you hoped it was a positive one. "Could you go check on her? I'm nearly done packing her things. Oh and she's napped for a while already, so she needs to wake up now."
"You sure she'll be okay with me waking her up? What if I make her cry? What ifā" You cut him off by pulling away from the hug and immediately cupping his face.
"Andy, baby... You're her daddy. She'll cry a little bit, all babies do, but once you really hold her and cuddle her, she'll calm down. Because she does know your touch, okay?" He slowly nodded in your hold, his Adam apple bobbing up and down as he gulped. His eyes moving from you to Daphne. Still fast asleep to all the horrors of the world and her fathers anxiety of holding her.
"Okay... I'll go wake her up. You uh, you finish packing." He gave your forehead a quick kiss before he slowly walked around you. His hands were shaking and his knees felt like jelly. But once he finally crouched down next to the baby swing, he felt his anxiety melt instantly.
There she was. His baby. All tuckered out from the draining activity of drinking milk from a bottle and being in the baby swing all day. Her little Snoopy onesie just suited her perfectly. Plus the little Pinkie Pie plush she had taken a big liking too as well lately. Tightly gripped in her little fist.
"Hey sweetheart... You gotta wake up now." His hand hovered slightly before it gently unclipped the belt of the baby swing and he gently rubbed her stomach. Daphne's eyes slowly opened but her face immediately started to crumple up. "Shit... Snoopy, baby. Daddy's sorry."
He immediately picked her up and held her to his chest as she started to cry quietly. Her free fist bunching up his shirt as tightly as possible along with her legs bunching up under herself. Pope has never felt so guilty before over something he knew would happen. He knew she'd cry, but fuck did it feel horrible.
"Daddy's so sorry Baby Snoopy... He's so sorry." He left gentle kisses all along her tuft of brown curls as you came up from behind him, placing your hand on the shoulder Daphne wasn't laying her head on.
"You're doing well... Just pat her back a little. She'll calm down in a moment." Andrew nodded and did as you said, gently patting her back and even trying to softly hum a random tune that is just coming to mind. And it worked.
Daphne calmed down within 3 minutes and was finally at peace laying against Andy's shoulder while babbling quietly. He just nodded along and continued to say, 'Really? Wow.' with all the emotion in him. Because, yeah, he didn't understand a fucking word. But that's his baby right there. So anything she says, he'll answer.
"We have to go now Snoopy. Long car ride, yeah? Big, long, car ride." He gets off the floor, Daphne still in his arm as he then grabs the baby swing with his free hand. No, they didn't need to bring all the furniture with them if they wanted to be out before Smurf would figure it out. But things like these can fit in the truck. So it's fine.
"Come on Daphne. Let's get you and momma outta here." Daphne continued to babble (more excitedly now), the entire time until the truck was finally packed, and the three of you were off.
"So how'd she take it?" You didn't want to ask that question, but there was also the part of you that needed to know what that crazy woman may do since one of her 'precious babies' escaped the brutal nest.
"She doesn't know. I packed my bag while she was outside and made a run for it. Made sure to get a new car while I was at it too."
"Wait, this car is stolen?! Andy!"
"No no no. Not stolen. Freshly bought. I knew what I needed so that no one could track us. Including the cops." You let out a deep exhale, your eyes shutting momentarily before looking back up at him.
"Good. That's good." The quiet babbling from behind you made you both slightly turn to look into the backseat when you reached a red light. Neither of you could see any part of Daphne besides her flailing fists. "Well she's happy..."
"Definitely. She's got the two of us together now. And also, you know she loves car rides." Andy chuckled quietly as he focused back on the road. His eyes constantly go to the rearview mirror as much as he possibly could just to get a glimpse. Her little finger. Her fist. Maybe even her onesie covered foot kicking up slightly.
This was... A real family life. Right?
It had to be. Because Pope has never felt more at peace in his life. He'e finally got his two girls close, in his safety. And fuck will he make sure none of his past life will intrude on them. Not ever.
"You get some sleep. I'll be fine driving us the whole way there."
"Are you sure Andy? I can drive for a little if you are tired." He shook his head, a gentle smile painting itself onto his face.
"I'm treating you to a proper family life now. So please, let me do this."
Your new home was quaint. The living room was by far your favourite, its large windows showing the backyard which was lit up with small solar fairy lights dotted within the garden.
"Andy..." You spun in a small circle, Daphne in your arms babbling at the new space.
"I felt this would be nice. For when Snoopy grew up, y'know? I-I even made sure that there was a room near the main bedroom so she could stay near us while she's still little. Then we can move her onto the other side of the house for when she grows up." You couldn't even answer him as you went through the kitchen. This was your entire domain. You cooked like it was nobodies business and fuck, did Andy choose the best.
"I... This is great Andy. Better than great, this is fabulous." Andy's smile came up slow but genuine. Daphne reached for him to which you obliged and handed her off. "You like the house Snoopy? Yeah?"
She squealed in Andy's hold, it only made him smile wider. This was it. This was the freedom he was looking for. He put Daphne to his chest and gently petted her back while bouncing her slightly. Daphne was immediately focused on that, her eyes just staring back at Andy that had colours of his own.
"Hi there pretty girl..." He left a soft kiss on top of her head. Daphne cooed and curled into his shoulder, immediately finding quiet comfort in him.
"Uh, Andy, what are we going to eat for dinner?"
"We'll just order something in."
It was after midnight when Andrew woke up to find you wandering the house checking each room multiple times. And he thought he was the only paranoid one in this relationship.
"Honey." You jolted and spun around rapidly. Nearly slipping on the floor from your socks.
"Andy!" You hissed, there was no malice or bite behind it, but he did scare you quite good.
"Sorry... But I've already checked the house. And I've already sent up the safety precautions. Because, I knew you'd want them put in. And I also made sure to always cover my tracks when comin' here."
You sighed heavily, feeling as though a crushing weight was being put on you this entire time dissipated slowly. He really did think about everything before bringing you both here. Yours and Daphne's safety was his top and only priority.
"C'mon, let's get you back to bed. Okay?" He put his large hand onto your lower back and guided you around to your bedroom. Passing Daphne's on the way, you quickly peeked in. She was fast asleep in her crib, somewhere far in her dreamland. Andy had to pull you by the waist out of the room. You hadn't slept in another room without her in 3 whole months! It's tough... But you knew it was needed. Plus, if anything were going to happen, you knew the man putting you back to bed right now would be up on two feet before anything could spiral.
"'m sorry Andy..." He shook his head gently as he laid next to you. Pulling you into his chest with a protective hold, and a kiss to the forehead.
"No need to apologise baby." His fingers twitched. "It's understandable." You let out a shaky breath as you nuzzled your face into his neck, breathing him in. Your hands fist his sweatpants to make sure he doesn't move. Doesn't leave. That makes Andy hold you tighter as well.
You two were far too depending on each other. Andy more than you.
"I love you, so much, Andy." A kiss to his neck. "I know Daphne loves you as well. With all her little soul."
He stayed silent for a moment, his brain becoming... Quiet. For the first time in 2 weeks. He'd been sneaking around Smurf and Baz the whole time so far to get this place prepped and ready for sanctuary. J, Deran and Craig helped out every now and then sure, but he wanted to keep it precious. Untouched. Andy wanted the touch ups, smell, just it's vibe in general to be created by you and Daphne. You brought life. That's all he wanted. A life.
"I... Love you too. I love you and Snoopy so fucking much. You two are my entire life." You gave him a small glance, some worry behind your eyes before it melted. Andy was okay now. He was out. Your Andy was finally out. He can now sit on the couch and play with Daphne. He can bathe her, feed her, and take her outside. In conclusion, he can finally be the daddy he's always wanted to be to dear Baby Snoopy.
The two of you continued to switch between staring at each other and sharing gentle kisses before sleep took you over. However for Andy, he stayed up for another hour and a half, watching, listening, and unmoving.
Not even his own brain allowing his paranoia to drain itself. But he made sure to calm his breathing, hold you tighter and hide his face next to your own in the pillow you both shared.
It was a sunny day next day, a perfect time for you to check out the backyard with Daphne on your hip. You didn't see it last night in your quick glance, but the yard had a pool and hot tub in one corner. Joined onto it was a shaded entertainment area. A full on grill and even a small corner outdoor cooking space were joined.
"Look baby, a pool. As soon as you are bigger, we'll get you your own arm floaties to swim without the donut!" Daphne had no clue what you were saying at, all. But from your excitement, she became excited. And squealed happily.
"Think I can teach her to swim?" Andy's voice came from behind you, he was still at the backdoor unlike you standing on the turf grass. You turned to him with a massive smile on your face.
"I'm sure she'd love for you to teach her to swim." Your head turned down to Daphne, who was chewing on her fingers and staring right at Andy. "Daddy's gonna teach you to swim, okay? I'll teach you to cook amazing food."
Giving her a big smooch onto the side of her head, you handed her off to Andy to leave the two of them to themselves to spend time together. You had things to list on what was needed to be purchased for the house anyways! Very important.
"Alright Snoopy..." Andy adjusted her tiny hat before he went to where you were before he walked out to you. He grunted slightly, situating himself onto the turf lawn cross legged and pulling his sunglasses down over his eyes. "We gotta chat. Now I know you won't understand anything I will be saying, but that's fine with me. You'll be growing up soon... Faster than both your Mama and me will want you too. But, you'll understand this all soon enough..."
He let out a heavy breath through his nose, his fingers now being held by his baby girl's tiny fists and being shaken around.
"I promise, that you and Mama will be my top priority until I leave this Earth. If your... Grandmother ever tries to break this family apart I want you to know, I'll get you both as far away as possible. I won't let her even get a look at you. You're too precious for that." Daphne started to babble quietly, all of her attention is on his fingers in her palms. "Yeah I know, I shouldn't be worried on that, huh. I took all the precautions. But I still feel her, over my shoulder."
He gently started to sway his fingers, making Daphne squeal and giggle. Her eyes finally going up to look at his own. She really did have your eyes. Even your smile. But the freckles and hair were all him. In his mind, she's a perfect mixture of the two of you. And he will be safeguarding that. She will be unaltered, unharmed and pristine with a innocent, and as normal as possible childhood.
"I love you Snoopy. Mama loves you too. And from now on, you shall have all the reasons to giggle, squeal, smile and kick your little legs in joy. Because I'm going to spoil you rotten." He lent down and kissed both of her chubby cheeks. He melted from her little laugh and babbles. "Well, as much as your Mama allows me to spoil you. We can't have you being snappy."
The pad of his finger tapped the tip of her nose as he then lifted her up to his chest and stood up.
"Come on sweetheart. Let's go out shopping for the house now, yeah? Get you a toy."
"Andy we need too." He looked away from the food court to where you were looking. Build-A-Bear. He didn't catch on yet.
"Why?" You didn't even speak as you pointed, the Snoopy plush in the window now obvious. "Oh. I agree. We must."
Andy walked in with all 10 bags in his arms, you having Daphne in your own. You went to the bin with the Snoopy skins. You grabbed one and gently held it to Daphne.
"You like it Daphne? Hm?" Daphne was getting a little sleepy, but luckily when she was sleepy, she never really became grumpy. Especially since she was well fed and close to you. No grumps needed. "Andy..."
Andrew bent down slightly to be at your level, hearing your gentle whisper.
"Let's put a heart into it... Make it special." Andy felt his own heart start to race. A plushie, special from the two of you to Daphne. Your little sunshine.
The creation of the entire plush was the most magical thing ever, mainly for both Daphne and Andy. But it held a pledge, a guarantee, an entire soul filled with adoration and cherishment.
This was the final step of transporting the family into the first step of normalcy and love.
