Anybody who could think that the press has the same function in America and Russia, or in France and China, is not really in touch with the medium. [...] There is no basis for such assumptions. Unawareness of the nature of the press in its subliminal or latent action is as common among politicians as among political scientist. For example, in oral Russia both 'Pravda' and 'Izvestia' handle domestic news, but the big international themes come to the West over Radio Moscow. In visual America, radio and television handle the domestic stories, and international affairs get their formal treatment in 'Time' magazine and 'The New York Times.' As a foreign service, the bluntness of Voice of America in no way compares to the sophistication of the BBC and Radio Moscow, but what it lacks in verbal content it makes up in the entertainment value of its American jazz. The implications of this difference of stress are important for an understanding of the kinds of opinions and decisions natural to an oral, as opposed to a visual, culture.

Not Here
by Rumi
Thereās courage involved if you want to become truth. There is a broken- open place in a lover. Where are those qualities of bravery and sharp compassion in this group? Whatās the use of old and frozen thought? I want a howling hurt. This is not a treasury where gold is stored; this is for copper. We alchemists look for talent that can heat up and change. Lukewarm wonāt do. Halfhearted holding back, well-enough getting by? Not here.
Isolating oneself into a narrowly defined victim group promotes a view of others as irrelevant at best and dangerous at worst, which eventually only leads to further alienation. Gangs, extremist political parties, and religious cults may provide solace, but they rarely foster the mental flexibility needed to be fully open to what life has to offer and as such cannot liberate their members from their traumas. Well-functioning people are able to accept individual differences and acknowledge the humanity of others.
Bessel van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score
Repost @marina.y.t ć»ć»ć» When we think of trauma, the first thing that comes up is extreme trauma.⣠⣠But the truth is that trauma can show up in many different ways, and there is no shame in admitting and realizing that every single human has experienced trauma.⣠⣠As human, we are incredibly resilient, so we are always able to move through trauma by taking its greatest lessons into our hearts and releasing the difficult emotions and energies that lay buried in our bodies after trauma.⣠⣠The other day we had a wonderful discussion about this on CH, realizing that if we had someone there to support us through our dark moments, then they did not manifest as symptoms later in life.⣠⣠But if we were all alone, then we were likely deeply impacted by what happened to us, and we carry it with us into our lives.⣠⣠The resiliency of the human spirit lies in our ability to reach out, admit we are struggling, and ask for support.⣠⣠Every single one of us deserves to be supported on our journey of trauma healing, and I feel so honored to be a coach that bridges the gap between present moment stuckness and shutdown, and past trauma and pain.⣠⣠Once we bridge this gap, there is so much compassion that flows with the understanding, and healing starts to happen bit by bit. ā£

409 East Kimball Avenue, Raymondville, Texas.
I swear these look just like the houses across the street from my great grandmaās old mobile home in raymondville. my brother and i used to walk around outside the house when weād visit and it was always really quiet. never any people out. thereās always stray dogs walking around here too.
It is genuinely mind-boggling how many radical feminists defend religion when not a single religious text is actually compatible with feminism. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all consider women to be inferior to men and instruct them to submit to men, according to their holy books. Worshipping and believing in the Abrahamic god is completely antithetical to the foundation of radical feminism.
Radical feminism isnāt compatible with the religions listed either; Iād have to assume that someone whoās trying to blend the two isnāt very serious about either.Ā
Social media has groomed young girls into thinking showing more skin is somehow empowering. No itās not shaming to say a 13 year old shouldnāt be wearing a low cut top and mini shorts and posing in front of camera and posting these provocative dances and pictures online. 100% horrible parenting and 100% online grooming.
I seem to remember a lot of discourse on this very site surrounding the concept of baring skin as empowering; theĀ āSlut Walkā comes to mind.Ā
rewires your brain, normalizes perversion/erodes morality, increases likelhood of risky sexual behavior,Ā

there's something about the way people are expected to curate their online persona now... it started with 'no drunk pics on facebook because employers might see it' and has become everything about you must be marketable, must be a brand, must make you look cool and hot and smart and funny
literally⦠the fact employers really check ur fb is like. borderline dystopian to me
also you put it perfectly⦠everything must be marketable and profitable⦠even #relatability is another part of peopleās brands⦠iām so cynical about the whole internet persona thing, donāt trust any of it
People who play this game are like auto-sus to me, ngl
