currently reading :  The color of water by James McBride. It touches on racial tensions in the 1960s, on the struggles of a white mother having black children and many, many more things. It´s a tribute by the author to his mother. I think it´s really touching and an easy read.

The two looked at each other before looking at Rei again, they can dye their wings? But they'd floated up a bit to show they were the real deal before gently landing down, they were quite big kids despite looking like young adults.

"We were invited like everyone else, we only really know one person here though, but maybe once this over, we'll have more friends for us to hang out with."

Right. Priorities were set. Looking good, kicking ass.

“Well, you would have hit the nail on the head, if you weren’t my sister,” Keigo stated. If it were anyone else, say one of her associates, he wouldn’t even need to show up to make a deal. But she was someone he knew; if he was really there to manipulate her into becoming an asset on their side or not, it was the perfect cover to keep her alive.

He looked over her ‘resume’ so to speak, Hawks knew she could take care of herself if she had to. But he didn’t want it to get to that, it was a warzone out there after all, all traditional rules went out the window. Still, she accepted the deal, he didn’t need her to be happy about it, just be cooperative.

“So you were really discarded, just like you think we might too.” Good, he got her to admit it out loud, for himself and for the books. If the organisation was still after her after the war, then it would be his job to protect her, as agreed and as her brother, if she actually saw him as one by then.

“Alright, we have a deal on that,” Keigo agreed at that note, she had to be in suitable attire at least to make sure she could fight at full capacity later. With their meeting done and finalised, there was a hopeful look on his face before he left to organise her release and beyond it.

“I’ll see you later, Reina.”

Really, he was the only one going on and on about them being siblings. Then again, it kind of felt refreshing for at least one of them to worry about this. Try to mend their relationship. Rei wasn´t that stupid. Just very, very mad. And him bringing up the fact she was 'discarded' didn't make it any better. Her face didn't contort; it just stayed this blank canvas. But she was more tense now. Maybe there was a small twitch in her lips, her jaw, or something. But Rei didn´t bother hiding negative emotions, not in here (not that she ever tried in the first place).

Rei decided to change the topic. "...You keep calling me by my old name. Just habit, or are you hoping to achieve something by doing that?" Try and change her by the power of..Well, in their case not friendship. The power of care? That didn´t sound right. Maybe he was trying to awaken old childhood memories or something silly. Rei wouldn´t even put it above him. It was a weak spot, after all. Perhaps even for the both of them.

She stared at the clothes. Not really what she wanted, but at least they brought clothes that actually belonged to her and not just some cheap slop. Finally, some personnel released her from her straitjacket. The first thing Rei did was to stretch. Her wings spread, creating a gust of air. The ex-mercenary ruffled them. Honestly. Being cooped up felt like absolute shit. "Alllllright. Now we got the business of clothes down. What about my equipment? I´m not going to fistfight AFO. I doubt anyone is... Or are you going to have me fight someone else? Dabi´s still out there, Toga...Others..." Rei trailed off. Or Reina. What were they going to call her? Others addressed her with her last name; honestly, Rei just wished that they'd address her with her code name. Sure, it was some remnant of the past, but it was what she was used to. Speaking of remnants of the past... "Yo...What happened to my pigeon by the way?"

Her dear pet. A (relatively chonky) wood pigeon that also acted as her assistent.

"Another secretary? A holiday? Are you offering to help more or cover me?" Keigo replied, it was hard to say whether he was being sarcastic or not. While he could use the help, this wasn't exactly the 'freedom' he had negotiated with her release from imprisonment, even if it was her decision in the end to stay with him.

"Right, right. At this point, it seems my style also retired with my hero work," he admitted, though he didn't really mind. Running things better in the background and public eye as commissioner now, it was the best he could do without his quirk. Rei, on the other hand...

"Well, they're busy enough as it is," Hawks answered, then he had to ask his deeply thoughtful question while she was in front of him; they had the same wings after all as siblings. "You know, think you've settled in long enough. What do you think about hero work?"
