I’m like that. Either I forget right away or I never forget.

Hiking - I don’t like either the word or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains - not hike! Do you know the origin of that word ‘saunter?’ It’s a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, “A la sainte terre,’ ‘To the Holy Land.’ And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not ‘hike’ through them.

Why I Hate Reading Maps
I have unrolled a map onto my kitchen table and put one finger where you are and another where I am.
The space between is only inches. That close, I could feel you breathing. I could reach out and run my fingers through every strand of your hair, touch your lips and barely need to move.
In the corner of the map there is a guide for judging scale: every inch a hundred miles full of roads and rivers and trees, the guide a sharp reminder that you are where you are and I am where I am, inches apart. Â

Miroslav Tichy
Tichy was an eccentric. He was held prisoner for almost a decade in Soviet labor camps just for that—being an eccentric, falsely accused of dissidence.
Upon his release in the early 70s he wandered his small town in rags pursuing his voyeuristic obsession with the female form by photographing women unawares in the streets, shops and parks, through windows and fences, with cameras he fashioned out of tin cans, children’s eyeglass lenses and other junk he’d pick up while wandering.Â

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
You like to get into records because they’re beautiful. An amazing album from start to finish is a great experience. It could be your entire summer, it could be your year, it could remind you of some time in your life, it could be your future.
