ICYMI: Watch the Reunions ’21 faculty lecture, “What was the Civil Rights Movement?,” by Pancho Savery, professor of English & humanities.
In this talk, he explored the idea that the Civil Rights Movement was finite by articulating the movement's extensive roots and gesturing toward the many ways in which it is ongoing, with an emphasis on art, literature, and music. “It is really important to go all the way back and see that there has been a continuous civil rights movement.”
View this and other recordings from Reunions.
Thank you to the 100+ enthusiastic, resourceful, and generous alumni volunteers who made Reunions ’21 possible through their commitment to making the most of this year’s virtual format while keeping Reunions traditions going strong. We’ll see you next year, June 9-12, 2022!
Also, did you miss an event that you’d still like to see? View the recordings:

Double your impact! Your support of financial aid makes Reed possible for more than 55% of students, and a gift to the Student Emergency Fund assists those confronted with unexpected and acute financial hardship.
Give by June 30 and have your contribution matched by a group of generous alumni and friends.
With a painting by Lucinda Parker, class of ‘66! 🖼 Posted by @reedadmission We asked our summer student workers to share their favorite places on campus and first up is junior English major Zack with the Performing Arts Building (PAB). "This spot is my favorite place on campus because it's incredibly easy to access and is a great spot to hang out. The painting here is incredibly pretty as well - I've spent countless nights talking with friends about nothing while looking at it! The rest of the PAB is also wonderful to walk around in whenever I'd get bored of sitting in one place." We hope everyone stays cool this weekend! https://www.instagram.com/p/CQofkx4hK4w/?utm_medium=tumblr

Students in Art 284: Craft and Culture, taught by Prof. Gerri Ondrizek last semester, made more than 40 hand-thrown ceramic bowls to help raise funds for Zenger Farm’s CSA Food Stamp Program. This Gifting the Bowl Project is part of a June 26 Juneteenth Edition of Zenger's Community Chef Dinner Series.
The Reed studio-art course explored the craft of ceramics and glass, their historical and cultural context, and contemporary culture’s engagement with these craft forms.

This afternoon, students, staff, and faculty gathered to commemorate Juneteenth with reflections and a communal meal. Mary James, dean for institutional diversity, read from a piece by Clint Smith, and Ashley Stull Meyers, MRC program manager, spoke about the power of eating together and sharing the work, and Po'Shines Cafe De La Soul provided a tasty lunch spread.
