still anxiously awaiting an acceptance… i know it’s still early (heck i still haven’t submitted one of my apps) but honestly the sooner i get one the sooner i won’t be slowly killing myself with stress.

getting tired of working long hours and long days. glad i came to campus today on my only day off so i’m not alone in bed all day. i need to just keep myself busy

awk moment when an hour after this i got my first rejection 😢

i cried my eyes out on the bathroom floor on campus but now i’m starting to look at the bright side: research wise the school wasn’t a good fit for me. it was the closest campus to my home so now i’ll be forced to branch out somewhere new which will be exciting.

i can do this.

also, i just wanna say: it is SO FUCKED UP that the GRE costs $250 when like 10 years ago it was only $30. And this dumbass system is like “oh take it as many times as you want until your scores are perfect!” and I just hate with a vicious passion every single person who has enough money to take it over and over and over again. fuck all of y’all. It’s not fair that rich people can just take it as often as they want and get amazing tutors that will teach them the exact way the exam is built! but the rest of us only get one shot and have to teach ourselves! like, $250 is prohibitively expensive for so many people.

And there are EXTRA FEES for everything! Want some scrap paper for the math portion? That’s a $50 fee. Want to take a practice test? That’s $30. Wanna get back the actual reasoning behind your scores so you can prepare to bring your scores up the second time? That’s $60. Wanna get multiple scores sent to schools? Also $50. It’s ABSURD. The entire system is rigged so that only rich people have any chance of success! it’s like it was designed to punish poor people who are simply trying to get into school. And the ONLY WAY to get the fee waved is to be unemployed and actively collecting unemployment. And even then it’s only a 50% waver. So if I wanted to take it for the low cost of only $125 I would literally have to get fired from my job, my sole source of income. Like… what the fuck??? I thought that it was evil that the SAT costs $50, but even then everyone i knew got it waved, and my high school would even cover the costs directly if someone couldn’t afford it but couldn’t apply to wave it. But with the GRE it’s like “oh you can’t afford to take a $250 exam? that’s cute :) maybe you should just wash dishes for the rest of your life and don’t bother trying to go to grad school which is for Rich People Only. Also, fuck you and we wish poor people would just die already so that they wouldn’t dare to enter our precious GRE testing facilities, which are for rich geniuses only.”

My total GRE costs:

$250 General

$150 Math Subject, September

$150 Math Subject, October

Additional score reports, $27 per school: estimated sending to 8 schools (Even though I sent my subject for free, when I took the general, I didn’t send it to any of the schools I’m applying to. So I have to send the general to each school. Still $27).

8*$27 = $216

for a total of $766.

Fuck ETS.

And that’s not even including all of these grad school application fees...
