last book i read: The Chiffon Trenches by André Leon Talley - memoir of one of the OGs in the fashion world (he inspired Stanley Tucci's character in The Devil Wears Prada), fun in a gossipy way but the writing was just ok

a book i'd recommend: EVERYONE READ THE LOST CENTURY BY LARISSA LAI NOW!! the level of research in this novel is crazyyy and larissa lai exists on a higher dimension than all of us. and also im mad it hasnt gained mainstream popularity because it would require westerners to learn literally anything at all about asian history/geopolitics.

a book i couldn't put down: Rejection by Tony Tulathimutte - truly a book for the age of cancel culture...i don't know if i even really enjoyed it but i couldn't stop reading

a book i've read twice or more: i'm not a rereader, sadly! the only book i've reread in the last 3 years is gideon the ninth (and, of course, every TLT book only improves upon rereading)

a book on my tbr: The Seventh Function of Language by Laurent Binet

a book i've put down: my last DNF was A Manual for Cleaning Women by Lucia Berlin - i actually quite liked it, but it's a pretty long short story collection with a ton of stories. i'd have an easier time if i read a short story from it every now and then, instead of trying to read the whole thing cover to cover.

a book on my wish list: i'm very excited for Weeb coming out in 2027 from Lin King, the translator of one of my favorite books, Taiwan Travelogue

a favourite book from childhood: i loved The Graveyard Book (i was a somewhat morbid child) but that's soured for me now :(

a book i'd give to a friend: depends on the friend and their personal interests, but KA tagged me in this, so i will recommend she read Négar Djavadi's Disoriental

a book of poetry or lyrics that i own: i actually don't remember which ones i own for sure because i just donated a bunch of them, but i have a soft spot for Chen Chen's Your Emergency Contact Has Experienced an Emergency. i don't read much poetry anymore though

a non-fiction book that i own: The Making of Asian America by Erika Lee, which has been on my tbr forever

what I'm currently reading: just paused Hu Anyan's I Deliver Parcels in Beijing (great book, had to return my libby hold so i will resume when my hold gets back). i am also concurrently reading Isabel J Kim's Sublimation (great) and du Maurier's The Scapegoat (also great)
