when I see this post I think a lot about books that depict abuse of all kinds. and I think about how cathartic it must be to write those books, for people who are affected by abuse. I know how cathartic it can be to read those books as someone who has experienced abuse. I also know that I share a world with people who claim to be against abuse and all its depictions, while simultaneously turning a blind eye to abuse present in their daily lives, in the real world. and while I express as much empathy as I can for those lily-livered sensitives who cannot stand the thought of such abuses, I also find that those people are the least helpful in times where assistance is necessary. pearl clutching is a worthless act and you serve no one with your personal indignations as repulsive fiction is merely a reflection of a repulsive world—one which very few actually attempt to remedy.
