        so many of his memories had been implanted and false to their very core; who was to say that the idyllic sunset-bathed islands were any different than the friends that had never existed in his heart at all? rather, it was the other way around - he’d never been a part of theirs, though several of them had attempted to welcome him into their circle of connections. it was a kind gesture, but one he felt the need to pull away from all the same. 

       he’d wanted to extend that same kindness to namine - to fade from everyone’s peripheral gradually - but found himself unable to do so. he’d wanted nothing more than to see her again for so long, and now he found himself faltering and stumbling, unable to say much else than the lightest of small-talk to avoid wounding her. he sat down beside her, inhumanly still, unsure of the new vessel he’d been granted. unsure if he deserved it.

it’s strange —— that he looks younger than her, now. ( albeit not by much / she hadn’t matured much in the time between / still small : just taller. ) ❝ the memories i gave you… they’re not real. you know that. ❞ but he had made them his reality, hadn’t he?

        “ i know. but they’re - comforting. something i held onto when darkness tried to claim me. ” he admits, discomfort washing over his skin at the admission that he’d fallen to shadows - more than once. it was something he’d taken pride in and erroneously believed to be his strength in oblivion. that, and his misguided anger at riku, had ultimately been his downfall. the false memories were a sort of anchor to keep his heart tethered to the realms of light...

        ... but perhaps it was unfair to still keep them so close, when most of them were of namine - someone who he’d never really known. “ ... you never got a say in being important to me, though. it wasn’t fair of me to act like those were real, just because i wanted them to be. ” she had been his entire world, but when that world was shattered, so had his heart. he was piecing it back together, now - but it was slow, and the jagged edges of him caused pain in the same instance of healing.
