what's a boy to do?

“ Ah, only my birthday. Officially only one year left before I have to grow up, or so they say. ”

“If it’s your birthday, then why don’t I have a gift ready? Oh wait... I think I do.”

“Where’s the sign-up sheet?”

“If you have to ask, should you be signing up?”

“ Haven’t you heard that it’s the most important day of the year ? I would’ve thought they’d have cancelled classes at the very least, maybe a huge party, definitely better food than normal. When will they learn ? ”

“And what day is that? I feel that I am very, very, very lost.”

(¸.• ♛ → “Nevermind, forget about it. And sure, if you say so…anyway, I’ve been looking for Bella, have you seen her?”

“You sure about that?” He paused. “You’re the only Black sister I’ve seen today. Perhaps she’s off with Rodolphus or Andromeda?”

“Sorry, can I bum a light?”

“I actually don’t have a lighter on me. I’m basically a buzzkill.”

(¸.• ♛ → “Are you serious with this?” She couldn’t help but ask, because right now, the blonde wasn’t really sure anymore.

“Um.... what is it that I’m to be serious or not serious about? I’ve mentally checked out.”

Gabrielle giggled, “It’s okay, you don’t have to rule the world. I think I’d miss you too much if you did.”

“Well if we ruled the world I think we could pick where we lived. You wouldn’t necessarily have to miss us.”

Andromeda takes a moment to think. “Well, I would have to say a good personality above anything else. But I don’t think that would be too helpful in narrowing it down.” She remarks with a laugh. 

“Nope. Can’t really know everyone’s personalities off the bat... that being said, anyone you don’t want?”

“I think that’s Annabelle’s problem as well. She is too smart for her own good, like you.” Gabby giggled, “The two of you would probably be able to rule the world if you put your minds to it.”

“Probably, although ruling the world seems like it’d be a lot of effort and I’m not sure I could handle the responsibility. Not at first anyhow.”

“ Don’t worry, it’s my least favorite holiday of the year. You seem to have the knack for making the worst things not so horrible, though. ” Like in the hospital wing, or now, when she hadn’t even realized she’d stopped crying. “ Oh, don’t worry, I’m plenty capable of giving you a long list to hate me, ” she agreed with a laugh. 

“You mean that? I normally have the opposite effect on everything. Just ask my brother.” He replied, a light blush peppering his cheeks. “I erm... well that didn’t come out the way I meant it. What I meant is that it was a longer list because it probably meant we’d have spent a lot of time together.”

“ If I regret anything with you, ” she admitted, leaning into his touch only slightly before thinking better of it, “ it’s ruining your last holiday. ” Put into perspective, after cheating death, she could deal with a letter. With a cheeky grin, she retorted, “ Oh, don’t worry. Stick around long enough and I’ll make the hate list. ” 

“That should be the least of your worries. Valentines day usually sucks, you didn’t do anything to make it worse. If anything, I’m sorry I wasn’t a better date.” Rab couldn’t help but let out a laugh. “Hopefully it turns into a long one.”

“Don’t call me darling. And I’m not terrible at being mean, that wasn’t even my normal level of mean- but I’ll  make sure to reserve a special, unique insult just for you. Is that better?” she replied, sweetly. 

“Alright then, Alecto.” He replied with a bored sigh. “You can’t be the judge of your own level of meanness. There’s bias there. But sure, insult away so long as it’s unique or I might as well be the rest of the population here at Hogwarts.”

Andromeda laughs, giving an accompanying shake of her head. “I am afraid I would give your skills quite a challenge. Specially considering I have no idea where to even start.”

“None? Not even... I dunno... a house? Or what they would look like ideally?”

“ Life is short, I don’t make a habit of regretting things, ” she assured him, although she wasn’t sure why he cared.  “ I guess in our own ways, yeah, but most people are all talk. ” She didn’t, really, since they only had a year left, but she still smiled at thought. “ Not a clue ? So you just wake up in the morning hating everything ? ” she pressing, chuckling softly. 

“But there are still regrets.” He quipped, leaning in to brush the hair from her face. “You’ve gone through something traumatic.” Was all he could say, even though it made him sound like an idiot. “Not every morning but there are a lot of days I wake up hating most things. You’re not one of them.”

Roxanne nodded though she had a thousand reasons to disagree with that statement; reasons she wasn’t planning on explaining to him. “You.” 

“Me? I know I can be an arse but.... really, me?”

She glanced him over, lips quirked in amusement. “ I suppose I’ll have to take your word for it about your house, but you may be the only person outside of Slytherin who thinks so about mine. You know, I think we’re both bold to assume Rita has any talent at all. ”

“Well we have to give her something so she’ll keep writing all those ridiculous stories. While they may be shit they’re at least entertaining in the sense that they’re easy to make fun of.”

“I don’t think divinations and herbology really mix all to well.” Gabrielle giggled, “But, I’d love to see you try to make it work.”

“Well that... is never going to happen. You can take my word on that. Ravenclaw but not highly motivated.”
