I havenât been on here in a long time but I need to vent.
My SOâs relative got murdered a few days ago by her partner. He had apparently been violently abusing her for years and got convicted of assault on their female friend a month prior. She had grown distant from my SO and his parents due to her partner, because they got very bad vibes from him and did not want to visit when he was there.
Iâm so fucking sad and angry. Nobody does anything until itâs too late, people are too scared to step in, donât want to make it their business. This couldâve been avoided but now a kind, sweet and innocent woman is dead and has been turned into a statistic
he was literally charged with assault but didnât get prison because they thought the risk of him committing another crime was âlowâ
he has been sentenced to life in prison! so glad the justice system actually worked for once
Nevermind. His lawyer lodged an appeal agaist the life sentence and it worked. since she apparently had combined her SSRI with alcohol the lawyer claimed there was no way to be sure whether she died from her injuries or drug poisoning, even though the pathologist determined her cause of death as being blunt force to the head, plus the fact that her partner beat her up so bad that the only part of her body left intact was her right hand.Â
Somehow the appeal worked and he got his sentence reduced from life in prison to 7 years and is now only convicted of aggravated assault instead of murder. The courtâs reasoning is that since she COULD have died from drug poisoning and since they have to be 100% sure it was murder in order to convict someone for murder they decided to drop the murder charge completely. Heâll likely be out in 4 years.
There is no justice for women even in death. Itâs a joke and I feel so sorry for her children. Does this mean that anyone who uses SSRIâs and drinks alcohol legally cannot be murdered? Itâs completely insane. Thereâs been a huge demonstration against the sentencing and the prosecutor is taking this to the supreme court. Hopefully theyâll fix this.Â
This is like 2 years late. I donât use tumblr anymore but I logged into this account just for nostalgia I guess
The man got life in prison, thankfully. This case actually reached the Supreme Court of Sweden, which is extremely rare, and justice was served. An entire documentary was made about her case. It has been extremely influential in how Sweden handles domestic abuse cases
This man is locked behind bars and will probably spend his entire life in prison. Thank god.
Itâs just tragic how nobody could help her in time. If you see something, say something. If someone in your life is in a relationship with an apparent abuser, donât just leave them in the dust. Stay. Be there. No matter how hard it is for you. Itâs life or death. A safety net couldâve saved her.
