That moment where Nikki tells Bear that she's writing a love story that isn't a romance, and he doesn't get it. Can't recognize the difference between the two things, and the way it dooms them all. ugh. UGH. NOBODY TOUCH ME

I read the Obsession script and all of you are wrong. Bear's great sin wasn't making the wish. It's totally normal to wish your crush liked you back, and Bear didn't know the $7 toy he bought at the equivalent of a Hot Topic had actual magic powers. Bear's flaw comes in when he realizes something is deeply wrong with Nikki and does absolutely nothing to stop it or make things right until the very end. Bear is evil and cowardly, but not because he made a wish for Nikki to like him back. It is very important for you all to realize that wishing someone liked you back is not, in and of itself, a bad thing.

exactly!!! like ofc when you don't believe in the slightest that a random wish you make is going to be real, you don't care about the way you word it, in fact you word it ridiculously because of how little you think it will work. bear shows us throughout the whole movie the exact villain that he is by not doing a single thing to help nikki and making choices that explicitly benefit him. it doesn't even matter that HE made the wish, making it 'his responsibility', the fact alone that nikki is his friend and a human being is enough for him to care and try to save her.

I genuinely appreciate how obsession doesn't try to frame bear as morally grey but just fully leans into how deplorable he is. a lesser movie would have tried to give him redeeming moments along the way but no, at every single crossroads bear makes the wrong choice. when the customer service rep asks him if he wants to cancel his wish, he says no, and asks to alter it. when nikki, the real one, begs him to kill her, he asks her "if it would be so bad to love him", and right at the end, backs out of killing himself and tries to throw the pills up. he is the villain, not another victim, not a confused, cowardly boy, the villain.
