Portugal welcomes the 2026 World Carillon Congress on June 24th, 25th, 27th and 28th. This prestigious event is being held at the National Palace of Mafra, a UNESCO World Heritage site that houses one of the largest historical carillons in the world.

St Andrews Cathedral, Scotland St Andrews Cathedral, located in Fife, Scotland. The decline of the cathedral was not due to natural wear and tear over time, but rather to a defining moment of religious violence. In June 1559, the famous Protestant preacher John Knox delivered a fiery speech at the local parish church against Catholic 'idolatry'. Inspired by the sermon, a crowd marched straight to the cathedral and completely destroyed the interior, removing all altars, images, and Catholic symbols. The building was abandoned shortly after (in 1561). Over the following years, local residents systematically removed stones from the cathedral walls to build their own houses and town defenses.
