Because he was never actually a liability. Despite how much Pyro and Cleo die on the hill of that explanation, Avid posed absolutely no danger to the vampires at all, intentional or not. He was entirely loyal the whole time, and even agreed to staying in the basement once it became clear he couldn’t fight. The only threat he ever posed was to the humans and to himself.

But that was never really what it was about, was it?

Was it bad for the group? Did seeing him lower moral? Did you have to be extra careful around him? Did you wish he could for once act like everyone else? Did he not deserve life because he did things in a way you didn’t want him to?

Killed for the crime of being too emotional. For being too loud. For not being ‘rational’ enough. For being scared and in pain constantly. For the utter atrocity of daring to struggle.
