Alright Tumblr. Please explain this to me? I’m being genuinely curious here. I’m not trying to be offensive, though I do apologize for any unintended offense and would appreciate it if you explained why you found something offensive.
How do you know your gender?
What is the difference between being male, female, genderqueer, etc? What is gender?
What I have figured out is that: It’s not biological sex, obviously. It’s a social construct/grouping other people have assigned, mostly in binary based on biology. Ok. Cool. And since it’s social, there’re diff definitions of genders in diff cultures, like how Papa New Guinea’s construct of boy vs. girl is kind of opposite of traditional western culture, or how there are third or even fourth genders in places like the Philippines or Hawaii.
Right. So how can you define your gender so firmly, when the definition of genders in itself is liquid and depends on culture? Does your gender just change depending on your culture? Or are you just a “different” woman/man?
What does gender dysphoria feel like? My real problem is I don’t have the perspective to understand and I’m trying to get one in words to try and understand?
Idk. I have a lot of questions. Trying to understand gender and all its nitty gritty problems is hard. This is a really messy post. I’m sorry. It’s 1 AM here.
Side note: I don’t know if this will influence your answers, but I am asking as a cis female, but trying to understand what’s going on when people figure out (or are in the process of figuring out) their gender. Seriously, how do they know?
(I guess this is the same part of me that’s asking how do people who so firmly have faith in their religion know. But that’s not my question now.)
