As an autistic person I am fully behind unmasking but I've also come to realize the weight of what unmasking means to another autistic person

Like I fully cannot believe I went through a cancer scare and every autistic friend I had just didn't text back (because of the unmasking). Didn't ask how I was doing. Didn't text back after I gave updates and had to decline a hang. Didn't engage at all.

It was my neurotypical friends who offered the stuff to help me stop spiralling. It was really eye opening. Does unmasking mean abandoning your friendships altogether ? It's really sad given how long we've known each other and how close I thought we were.

But maybe it's my bad for thinking we were closer than we were, or having expectations. And maybe I'm a bad person to have wanted you to mask a little and at least emoji the text I sent after you read it. I guess at least you guys read it.
