Black Twitter Nostalgia
Discussing Black Twitter as a black woman, after having been apart of it and participating in it daily, for years, brings up feelings of nostalgia. It has been a beacon of hope, an amplifier of social movements and a force changing the narratives of mainstream media and political discourse across the nation. But the changes made in recent years (once it was acquired by the new owner), have also changed the experience, which did cause some people, like myself, to leave the app. Black Twitter was once a safe space where people with common interests were able to laugh, commune, live-tweet their favorite shows and even advocate for change. There is no denying the impact that this community has made on society and I'm grateful to have been apart of it. Although many decided to stay on X (formerly Twitter), I hope to see it restored one day to the safe space that it once was, so that the people who left can feel comfortable interacting on the app again, without being harassed by trolls or inundated with advertisements.
