My made up breed of northern pegasus ( Whirly Bird) in a group is called a troupe. Vs flock for standard pegasus or congregation for earth ponies. Unicorns are called a coven.
These are all not used too much in day to day speech unless the speaker is a turbo nerd and if you say "herd of ____", people will know what you're talking about.
Earth ponies are more likely to be paints and appaloosas. Pegasus are more likely to be a shade of blue and have curly. Unicorns are usually pale ( it's a contentious subject, try to avoid the topic in polite conversation)
The beauty standards of unicorns are strict. Everyone wants to be thin, tall, long legged, with a pin straight rapier-like horn. This mostly is based on God Queen Princess Celestia being the paradigm for a couple thousand years. Like her, most want white or pale off-white coats. And small heads with round button noses.
Unicorns often buy bleaching products, powder themselves, or sunbathe to try and keep their coat light. Parents might put their foals in training helmets to train their horns to grow straight or file them.( This is largely homeopathic hooey but some people are desperate). Adults will often wear heels or horn pieces to make their bodies appear lankier as well. Recently, with the return of exiled Princess Luna, the Equestria government has been implementing PSAs and programs to help combat colorism and harmful horn stereotypes.
Pegasus breeds/subspecies (found mostly by the sea or on mountains)
Northern aka Southern aka Migratory
Unicorn breeds/subspecies (found mostly in thick forests or steep rocky terrain)
Alpine ( yes they get confused with Alpine Pegasus a lot and it doesn't help that they live in the same area and interbreed. So you can be a half alpine and a quarter alpine, with your mother being half alpine and half alpine. Also your fathers line on his mother's side also has some alpine in it.)
Standardbred ( the ones you see in Canterlot)
Earth pony breed/subspecies ( found mostly in wide flat spaces)
Akhal-Teke aka Mountain (do not call them alpine they get pissed)
Apaloosa Aka Nomadic ( not all are appaloosa colored)
Breeds/subspecies can be miniature, standard, or draft. But the limits depend on the breed (unicorn drafts are tallest, Pegasus minis are lightest, Earth pony drafts are heaviest, earth pony and Pegasus minis are both shortest)
