Hello! I was wondering, did Alex always have a poor relationship with her mom, or did something happen?

Alex always had a poor relationship with her mom, she was very overbearing and controlling about Alex's academics and appearance, etc. But their relationship hit rock bottom when her mom disapproved of her becoming a brewist, so when she was old enough she moved out and became "rebellious" by cutting/dyeing her hair, not communicating with her mom, opening her own café, etc.

She's not completely no-contact with her mom, but now she's independent enough to make her own decisions about her life. :D
