I'm writing up my quick and dirty primer on the Spring Hill Spiritualists, partially so people can see what I've been up to these last few months, but also to try to get people to join me in the research hole so we can all hold hands and watch these people go bonkers so hard that they have to go to court to talk about ghosts.

Actually, I'm going to go ahead and drop the foundational texts for these people so you all can peruse and research at your leisure. (And yes, "vail" is the correct spelling in these titles.)

Fair warning about stuff you might find in these. There are a few spirits that are clearly ethnic or racial caricatures, a lot of "indigenous" mysticism (some of this has to do with the location, which I'll explain later on), and some references to some truly terrible episodes of real-life out-of-the-circle violence.

It also stands to point out that aside from a select few members of the Aber Intellectual Circle (Aber himself being one of these), these people truly did believe in everything that was happening to them. Most members were grieving someone and often refer to speaking to dead spouses, parents, siblings, or children. Roughly a dozen members that I know of so far were Civil War veterans, and a larger number had witnessed the Border War/Bleeding Kansas. While a lot of what you'll read is completely off the wall and wild, it's really important to consider what the Spring Hill Spiritualists were doing in the context of the time and place. This was all very, very real to them and it reached a point that some of them testified about their beliefs in court.

So if you have the inclination, have at! It's wild in there, but I really just need more people to talk about this group with or I'm going to looooose it.
