Snoozin' Photo Ops
I have a lot of people ask me why I take so many pictures of Oliver asleep. "Is he always taking a nap?!" Well there are a few reasons as to why I wait until I see his little eye lids close to grab my phone in hopes of playing the role of parental paparazzo.
1) He has autism! Our normal day is so constantly energy filled that I honestly don't stop to really think to document any of it until he winds himself down to the point where my brain can have a few calm, productive, moments. From the moment he gets up to the moment he falls asleep we are rolling around on the ground or bouncing on an exercise ball so I focus all my energy on being right there in that moment. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with photographing your family's day but I try to live in that moment (just us) rather than worry about making sure the rest of the internet believes that we are having fun.
2) His sleep schedule is incredibly hectic! Oliver's sleeping patterns are so sporadic that I truly embrace the rare napping episodes that he succumbs to. Running around all day with a rambunctious toddler is quite the adventure but sometimes I just want to go on Pinterest or I dunno, pee with the door shut finally?! When I see him sleeping so peacefully I have to document it to remind myself of how lovely it is to have a little slice of "me" time.
3) It's cute! Honestly, it is very hard to get Oliver to focus on me enough to take a legitimate picture (at least one where he is actually concentrating on the camera for that matter). So when he is just laying there it is so easy to just snap a picture on the good ole iPhone which allows me to send it to family and friends so they can go, "Aww, what a cutie!" They will know he is doing just fine with a picture rather than a simple text message. Plus, who doesn't like little kid pictures?!
All in all, I am a sentimental sap who is obsessed with remembering all of these perfect moments with my family on a daily basis. Whether he is awake or asleep to me it doesn't matter. I just never want to miss out on these days with him!
