2020 is indeed a pain in the ass. -_-  Here’s  list of what I think helped improve my writing:

Read a whole bunch of stuff. Fanfiction, fiction, non-fiction, comic books, etc. Good writing, bad writing, meh writing, weird writing. I think it kinda gives me this huge frame of reference for how words can be put together to set the mood, get emotions across and such, makes your writing more varied.

Watching narrative movies and TV-shows and listening to narrative podcasts/etc. Similar to the above bullet point.

Writing. Just keep writing. When I look back at my old work (like the really old stuff that you can technically find online but you gotta do some looking) I can tell that my writing got better after I did it for a while, especially if I was writing the same story for a while. My writing improved so much when I was writing my crappy Doctor Who fanfic which was super long, then it improved so much more as I was writing Scilicet... and it especially improved every time I did Nanowrimo. (I’ve done Nano several times, mostly for an original sci-fi novel which is still a work in progress)

The posting of the rewritten chapters of Scilicet…FINALLY continues today with two chapters and an announcement that I have a job! Literally the day after I moved in with my father & step-mother due to not having a job I found a local long-term substitute teaching job which has now become a full time job!

Chapter 30 - Quae Nocent Saepe Docent

I hadn’t heard it had come out until this ask, so I went and watched it so I could answer this!

So to start off with I like the whole like aesthetic/look of what’s in the trailer, from the Batsuit to Catwoman having a sensible outfit, to the Joker thugs. Also I mean, it’s a trailer, but I liked that the camera seemed to be very “steady” - like it’s most notable in the Joker thug beatdown, In general I like more steady cameras rather then when they try to make scenes more action packed by whipping the camera all over the place.

Really visually wise, the only thing I saw that I went “meh” about was the shot of the church where Bruce just... is not looking good. Center part with that length of hair is not the way to go man, you look like my brother when he used to have bowl cuts.

In general I’m really interested! I’d been kinda casually intersted when I heard about the casting and saw the like costume test image, but I guess I’d thought it was gonna be a continuation film not a reboot? So now that I’m like “oh it’s a reboot” I’m very fascinated by how they’re going to play it, like are we gonna get Batman Begins where it’s a movie with time jumps/etc, or a movie like the original Batman film that just is straight up “Batman is here now”.

I’m thinking we get something set after Batman is established but with a LOT of flashbacks to his early days... also I’m thinking maybe it’s gonna make Joker either cannon or semi-cannon, given the Joker thugs that Bats beats up in the “I’m vengence” scene.

It looks like they are setting up Riddler as the “main” villain, or at least the villain driving the story and I’m interested in where they’re going with it... like I’m wondering if we’ll get something like Two-Face starting crimes when he’s still Dent, or some other corruption that Batman doesn’t see due to his “blind eye” Or maybe we’ll get a “you go after street crime but what about white collar crime” thing?

The posting of the rewritten chapters of Scilicet…continues today with a single chapter due to TheRaven1845 leaving a comment on A03 which got me out of the funk caused by a lack of a job and general COVID / Summer malaise / getting invested in other stuff like trying out Twitch Streaming. Hopefully more chapters coming soon!

Hello! I do plan on having Jason (and eventually Tim) come in. Plans are still very hazy and up in the air, as well as a bit of “I wanna keep this on the down low so I surprise people.” because I thrive on that.

The posting of the rewritten chapters of Scilicet…continues today with a single chapter because summer is making the author loose all sense of time and motivation and she made the mistake of buying Okami for the Nintendo Switch and has been spending waaaaay too much time playing it.

Being a teacher is... weird. Like part of me still feels odd when people look to me for answers/knowledge/etc because most days I feel like I’m two kids in a trench coat stumbling around and I’m pretty sure I’ve got imposter syndrome?

Also a huge part of being a teacher is the fact that you’re never NOT a teacher. Like i think if you work in an office or what have you, you go home and you’re just you, not office worker you. As a teacher you’re always a teacher even when you’re at home doing something non-teacher. Part of this is due to actual legal obligations (as a teacher I’m a mandated reporter, meaning that if I see/suspect child abuse I’m legally mandated to report it, so I tend to freak out in semi-questionable situations) and part of it is due to teachers being underpaid and overworked, even in a state with fairly decent unions like California. You pretty much have to bring work home, especially during your first few years and you NEVER have everything you want or even everything you need. So like Sundays are workdays for me-- that’s when I do lesson prep for the week ahead and grading and such. Also depending on how the day/week goes I may end up just working after school with only a quick break to make dinner.

Damian will be appearing very far in the future since, as I’ve previously mentioned, I want to have all the Robins, or at least all the “main” Robins and we’ve only just got Dick in that role recently in the fic. I’ve currently undecided between a few differnet ways that Damian will appear and can’t say more as most of those ways involve surprising my readers.
