i haven't reached the point at which she describes the clothing she thinks of as 'bulletproof,' so this is my impression of an outfit she might wear to fit that purpose. i'd forgetten that she was biracial, since her dad is so rarely in the picture, but that seems to explain the author's choice to give her "light brown hair." her experience is so tied to being the only Black kid in her small Canadian town that it makes sense that her Blackness is what she thinks of more than her biraciality

i love her and i'm so impressed with her thinking in the Awakening scene--her insistence on the Others agreeing to specific promises to protect the girls is really the foundation for the strong relationship that grows out of this first arrangement. also we're getting the very first of the lucy-john relationship which i am so excited to follow again!
