Dorne has always been loyal to House Targaryen. Before it became trendy. During the great war and even after. After Robert’s Rebellion, Dorne secretly supported first Viserys and then Daenerys, not making any difference between them, Doran Martell had sought alliances with both equally.
Arianne Martell was betrothed to Viserys Targaryen until the day he died, and instead of giving up on this alliance, Doran Martell sent Quentyn, his first son, to marry Daenerys. Doran’s support for them has never stopped. Everything in order to get vengance for Elia and now Oberyn.
To make this clear to the people who still did not get it, while the show claimed House Targaryen had no support in Westeros, they had, House Martell.
According to the show, Doran needed to die to forge an alliance with Daenerys, while in real life Doran Martell just laughs at this.
Doran Martell has three children, Arianne, Quentyn, and Trystane.
Arianne Martell is heir to Dorne, not her brothers.
Because Dorne is THE ONLY kingdom in Westeros where women and men are equal.
Hence why to dornish custom, Myrcella is the rightful Queen of Westeros, which Arianne tried to make it happen in the Queenmaker plot, but failed horribly.
By dornish law, men are not allowed to beat their wives. If a man does so, he will be hit in return, regardless of what the wife did to “earn” the beating.
Dornish food is meant to burn your mouth. They add dragon papers and even snake venom to their food to spice it up.
No matter what the show says, THERE ARE SHARKS IN DORNE.
Dorne is the only kingdom in Westeros who cares for the poor. By dornish custom, every Lord has to feed their poor people. Aside of that, it is a dornish law that every Lord has to take care of his crippled soldiers and the families of the fallen ones.
While you are pretty much screwed as a Bastard in Westeros, in Dorne it brings no shame to your name to be one. Stigmas against bastards aren’t present in Dorne. Sands are just as important as Martells.
Homosexuality is not viewed as wrong in Dorne, it is a common thing. ( as it should be. )
Dorne has never been conquered, they became part of Westeros due to an alliance, not due to bending their knees. Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken.
Yes, not even Aegon the Conqueror himself with his 3 huge dragons, was ever able to take Dorne. Instead, he lost one of them along with his second wife.
The only person who was ever able to kinda take Dorne was Daeron the First Targaryen. However, the dornish men took back Dorne within a summer. Daeron lost sixty thousand men trying to hold Dorne and still failed, followed by losing his own life. Let me repeat, King Daeron Targaryen, died trying to conquer Dorne.
Dorne is the only kingdom which is allowed to use the term “Prince/Princess” for their ruler, instead of “Lord/Lady”.
As the great spring sickness occurred, Westeros lost ten thousands of men, Dorne wasn’t even bothered. They closed their borders and harbours and waited until it was over.
There are 3 types of dornish men. The stony dornish men, the salty dornish men, and sandy dornish men. Each has their own culture, customs, and traditions.
Dorne and the Vale of Arryn, are the only regions which have their own food and army supplies.
Planky Town is the closest thing Dorne has close to a city, however, it is built on planks and pole boats.
