Can’t sleep…and it’s bugging me that there’s no explanation for why Solas does not have the same large irises as other elves, including an eleven inquisitor. His eyes appear larger than a human’s, like Cullen for example, but smaller than other elves. I can’t even attribute it to the ancient elves because even Abelas has large irises! Maybe it’s just the color that makes them appear smaller?

The eyes also do serve to obscure his age. Part of it is because they’re so deeply expressive. I have always thought this. The bigger and sadder they get, and the softer his brow, the younger and more sympathetic he looks. This is what I call “puppy face.” Like here, in Crestwood:

Then, there’s trickster face. Also youthful. Eyes narrowed, knowing, but soft. They are smiling eyes, and the brow is slightly soft as well:

Then, there’s “god” face. When they’re narrowed, hardened with remove, and the brow is stern. He tends to look both extremely conventionally attractive but also just terrifying, very cold, and kind of mean. Age is hardly even relevant to the discussion at this point lol. And honestly, the best example of this that I can find is on @cyran9‘s blog! Here.

I’m really enjoying the discussion on this, so I’ll add some more references. 

There appears to be a disconnect between Solas’ in-game model (center) and how his eyes appear in game (top middle - narrowed eye, and bottom left - open eyes).
