hi there! i'm perse, and i'm a playwright, aspiring fantasy writer, and occasional mediocre artist.

i decided to make this blog for digital scrapbooking purposes, because that sounds fun! it's an unpolished place for me to share my writing, art, cooking, and whatever fun outfits and objects catch my fancy.

the blog is named after quaxo serpentine, who started off as my very first dnd character (halfling monk) and has since managed to wriggle a new iteration of themself into most of my fantasy world concepts.

alodia is the main character of left unheard! here is her character description in the script:

23, the middle sister. Ruth’s caretaker. A bit of a control freak. Bottles everything up. She’s exhausted but moves with the manic energy of someone desperately trying to keep their life together.

alodia has recently graduated from community college (university of california, santa nunilo, aka ucsn) with a degree in aerospace engineering. she's really interested in stem and wants to get her masters so she can work at nasa one day! for now, she does low level paperwork for an aerospace engineering company and does evening/weekend work at a bar to support her younger sister, ruth.

ruth dropped out of college and has been crashing on alodia's couch for months. alodia is overworked trying to support her younger sister, and overwhelmed by not having her apartment to herself. not to mention hasn't recovered from a bad breakup and has been losing her hearing for months with no explanation. and that hearing loss has manifested into a giant beetle that follows her around and torments her.

once her older brother jude moves back into town, alodia is forced to act as a mediator between him and ruth due to ruth's feud with jude. alodia's one escape is the beach, where she gets to be alone and spend time searching for sea glass.

alodia deals with the invisibility of being the middle child, while also the responsibility of being the older sister (especially since jude ditched the family for the last six years). despite her hard work, she never stood out academically like jude did, and despite her new disability, she never required the care that ruth did. her character arc is about coming to terms with her hearing loss and asking her siblings for help.

When three siblings collide after years apart, they're forced to confront old resentments and new conflicts…plus a giant beetle intent on ruining Alodia’s life. Left Unheard examines the stories we tell ourselves—the truths we share, and what we keep carefully hidden away.

my dearest play!!! i spent most of 2023-2024 writing this and then 2024-2025 editing it for the very first production!! left unheard was initially inspired by my own experience with hearing loss, and from there, the world of santa nunilo (fictional california small town where the play is set) began to grow.
