here have one of my sickest moments from my d&d campaign! Avi, a paladin of vengeance, finally faces off against the shapeshifter who took her eye and arm, and burned down her home.

anyway I got possessed. watched this happen and went "i need to sketch this idea i have" and 90 minutes later here we are

So after having read IHNMAIMS and seen some fan theories about TADC I'm starting to realize that the characters' appearances & rooms might both be specifically tailored to torture them. My theories for all of them:

Zooble: Infinite parts to swap out but it's ensured that they're never satisfied with any of them, which is intended to lead them into eternal frustration and worsen their body/gender dysmorphia (this may not be the term i'm looking for so apologies if so); and their room is literally mirrors all over so it's impossible for them to escape it

Gangle: Depressed(?) in the real world, so in the circus her happiness is literally forced to depend on other people, since her comedy mask can be physically broken

Ragatha: A people pleaser who suffers because of it and resents her mom for being so controlling; thus, she's a ragdoll, a literal toy for people to play with/made to be controlled by others

Pomni: Insecure about being belittled / treated like a child / not taken seriously (sort of suggested in the Ep5 bar scene & something I've seen theorized quite a bit), so she's super short in the circus and is a jester, existing to be looked down on by others. Also, her room is full of children's toys + a cabinet that is so tall she can never reach the top of it, looming over her constantly

Jax: I see a lot of people saying he's trans, which is definitely possible, but I imagine it to moreso be that he's insecure about his masculinity (his comment on "peak male performance" to Pomni); from what I've read/heard, this kind of insecurity is commonly associated with living in an abusive household... hmm... maybe that had something to do with his reaction to Ragatha talking about her mother in Ep 5! I've seen a lot of people saying his room is the way it is because he hit a little girl, which would be insanely dark and is definitely possible, but it could also just be as simple as being a "girly" room specifically because he would hate it

Kinger: We have very little on him, but I think he might be someone who hates being in positions of power. "The best leaders are the ones who don't want to lead" and all; Kinger would make a very good leader, but I could totally see him not wanting to be in that position because he'd take it so seriously. Orr maybe he did something that he regrets the last time he had power, if anything Abel said had even a sprinkle of truth to it. So, congrats, you're a king piece now.

Bonus: My theories for Ribbit & Kaufmo

Ribbit: Basically opposite of Jax--wanted to be pretty / loved / girly, thus was given the form of a frog (regarded as ugly / unlovable, princess and the frog and whatnot) plus a bowtie which is generally regarded as a more masculine accessory I think. Maybe she also helped Jax get through his trauma, since he seems quite positive about his ears and tail... I've seen people saying that Jax's tail was associated with Ribbit, so maybe she called it cute or something once to affirm him and once she was gone, he just.. forgot about it / didn't want it anymore (since we've seen that the circus somewhat responds to what the cast believes to be true)
