“Why are you acting like this?” Mary asks frowning at him.

“Because,” Rod gritted his teeth. “You must know what it will mean if I’m seen with you.” He arched a brow. “Don’t you understand?”

“I’m sure you will.  Are you always this arrogant?”

“For you, I could be more so.”

Following his hand as he placed it on his chest, Vic rested heer on on top of it tracing her fingers over the back of his hand, before she allowed a small, amused smile to curve her lips slightly up. “I have to say,  always thought you were far from cold, quite the contrary, really” she murmured, her eyes purposely avoiding his.

Rod felt the muscles under her touch jump to attention, itching for more. Carefully, he placed his free hand over her small one, a softer smirk lighting his features. “Oh?” Amusement coloured his tone. “And now I’m curious.” His blue gaze searched hers, though he could gather her meaning. “I never got to give you that dance at the ball.”

Her eyes studied him carefully, cautious not to let her utter curiosity show on her face. “Wouldn’t have pictured you to be the kind to believe in such nonesense” she retorted with a smug smile playing on her lips.

“What can I say?” Rod tried to keep the humour off his face. “I have a poet’s heart,” He placed his hand over his chest. “However cold it may be.”

“Well we are!”

“Please stop saying that when people can hear you,” Rod groaned again, looking pained. 

“It’s a hard feat to accomplish.”

“Then I shall enjoy doing it all the more,” Rod smirked.

His brother’s remarks didn’t surprise him. He had expected nothing less. “I just wanted to see if you could help somehow. Maybe one of the girls you’ve fucked? Or none of them are in Ravenclaw?” Rabastan shook his head at Rod’s question. “They are just exhausting - some of my extra activities.”

Rodoplus’ mind immediately jumped to a certain Ravenclaw blonde whom he was very well acquainted with. But somehow, Rodolphus didn’t find himself wanting his baby brother to be around her. “I’ll see,” His gaze sharpened on his little brother, an inkling to what he was up to threading through his mind but he had no desire to neither have it denied or confirmed. “I’ve been meaning to ask,” Rod replied carefully. “There’s some Lestrange duties that you have to live up to.”

“That’s disgusting, Lestrange.”

“Glad I stir such strong emotions within you, dear.”

Victoria looked back at him, an eyebrow raised in feigned innocence. “Colour me intrigued, Mr Lestrange” she replied, her eyes setting on him cautiously.

“I would colour you a far more worthy colour than mere curiosity.” Rod raised a brow, mimicking hers. “Haven’t you heart what curiosity does to the little kitty cat?”

“You know someone who is capable of writing prettily? I need to cheat my way through an essay.”

“Have you not tried one of the Ravenclaws?” Rodolpus sighed, eyeing his little brother. “Or, is their handwriting not feminine enough for you?” With a small snort of amusement, the elder cuffed Rab at the back of his head gently. “You’re usually a bit sharper than that, Rabbi. Something on your mind?”

“ you shouldn’t, but i would appreciate it if you lend me a hand on the matter— take it as a deal. i’d owe you one after this. “

“And don’t I just live to gain your appreciation?” Rod’s eyes narrowed, his arms crossing over his chest as he studied the other lad. “What could you possibly offer me in return? I can’t imagine wanting anything from you, Greengrass.” The Slytherin sighed. “What is it you want again?”

“Oh, really? And what might that be?”

Rodolphus smirked, his gaze lingering on Victoria for a moment before shrugging. “Allow me to keep my hidden pleasures to myself, Miss Nott.”

“I’m just trying to get to the common room. Please move.”

“Only if you promise to say please again. I rather like the sound of it from your lips.”

“I can think of something far more pleasing to the eye.”

“I’m your brother.”

“Don’t remind me,” Rod joked before rolling his eyes. “What is it you want again?”

“We’re friends?”

Rod gave a small groan. “I told you to stop saying that.”
