On today’s episode of Punkz Tips: ethical responsible breeders! *This is not open to argument over adoption vs shopping. We believe in both responsible adoption as well as responsible shopping. This post is to help educate those on how to be a responsible shopper* Are you aware that even backyard breeders and puppy mills can have AKC registered dogs? AKC papers are not the end all be all for ethical breeders. It’s important to ask questions of the breeders you’re interested in & believe it or not it’s very important that they also ask questions of you as a potential owner of their pups. First place you should look for a breeder is the breed club of the breed you’re interested in. They have high standards for the breeders that they list and will often let you know which health testing the breeders should be providing for that specific breed. Look and begin talking to breeders in advance. It is normal for good breeders to have waitlists for their litters and you may be waiting at least a year for your puppy. Though each dog deserves a home it’s very important to not fund backyard breeders or puppy mills as that creates a demand that they are all to happy to fill. Remember it is absolutely possible for your friends or family to be backyard breeders & this should also apply to them as well. Breeding for any other reason than to better the breed is not responsible or ethical. We can go on and on about this topic but these are the quick main snips of important information.
